Champions League SF Preview Part 2

Battle in Munich!

Bayern Munich vs. Real Madrid

What a semi-final this is going to be. Bayern Munich have some what slopped under the radar in this season’s competition. The German side have conducted their business in expert fashion without attracting any over the top attention. Madrid on the other hand have had to beat PSG and Juventus to reach this stage of the competition and now play the German champions.

Bayern have already sealed the Bundesliga title and since defeating Sevilla in the quarters Bayern have have scored 14 goals in 3 games. The goals have come against fellow german sides although they were some of the better ones. For Bayern the league title is mostly complimentary at the moment, what has eluded them is the Champions League which they have not won since 2013.

Real have played two games since defeating Juventus winning one and drawing one. It highlights how they have struggled for form domestically, but in Europe Real are a totally different team. Many felt that they would meet their match against PSG, Real proved them wrong, it was thought that this would be the year Juventus got one over the Madrid side, it was not meant to be. For a rejuvenated Ronaldo and Real the only trophy this season is the Champions League. Real have won the competition in 3 of the last 4 seasons and it would be foolish to doubt whether they will reach the final this year.

An interesting aspect is that if Bayern defeat Real it will mean that the 4 year dominance of Spanish sides winning the Champions League will have ended. It is match up of glorious players spear headed by Lewandowski and Ronaldo respectively. Bayern will have to make sure that they restrict Madrid as any away goal will give Real the advantage going into the second leg in Madrid. Real will look to accomplish the impossible by reaching the final for a potential 3rd straight Champions League, while Bayern will look to find what they have been missing by achieving European success.
