Chelsea vs. Liverpool Preview

Final 1 of 4.

This game begins the run of games that could either save our season or break it. In the premier league any opposition can pose a challenge but for this current season Liverpool are perhaps the most dangerous of them all. Since the season started Liverpool have completely demolished teams in both Europe and in England although in recent weeks the effort seems to be taking a toll on their domestic performances. Liverpool have exceeded all expectations to reach the Champions League final and for Klopp and co that will be put on the back burner and the final weeks of the Premier League will be given priority.

A win for Liverpool would guarantee them top four and diminish hope for Chelsea for those that still hope for a top four finish. I am one of those foolish souls and so believe that Chelsea’s recent form will help them beat a tired out Liverpool side. Liverpool lack squad depth and so depending on whether Klopp wants to rest players or not the chances of a win will either decrease or increase. The danger men remain Salah, Firmino, and Mané, stopping them will be key but Chelsea will also have to win the midfield battle if they are to get three points in this game.

In his pre match press conference Conte was asked the usual questions about his future to which he gave the same reply he gave after game week 1. Conte was asked whether he will give a chance to players so that they can make their national team squads to which he replied that the team came first and so this will not influence his selection. A hilarious side note to the press conference was when Conte replied that he had no say on whether Salah stayed at Chelsea and that he did not this tension to be added to his conscience.

Everyone knows how good Liverpool are and many will be backing them to take three points at Chelsea as they have done for the last two seasons. Chelsea have not been great but the last month has lightened the morale in West London and I have feeling Klopp might lose his first match at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea Team Preview

No injury news from Conte as everyone remains fit. It will also be interesting to see whether Conte sticks with Emerson or reverts to Alonso now that he is available again. The only question mark remains over what formation Chelsea will employ to counter Liverpool. If it is a performance similar to the one at Man City then Chelsea will be annihilated but if we counter and are defensively solid then 3 points are ours.

Liverpool Team Preview

Chamberlain, Can and Joe Gomez are the injuries for Klopp. Rotation might be in Klopp’s mind as he might look to rest players in the next few weeks for the upcoming Champions League final.

Starting XI Prediction

This game is as tough as it gets but Chelsea are at their best when no one gives them a chance.
