3 more to go!
Chelsea scored first and did not lose the lead for the second week in a row!
Conte opted for a 3-5-2 with Cahill keeping his place at the centre of defence. Alonso replaced Emerson at left wing back and it was a front 5 of Kante, Fabregas, Bakayoko, Hazard and Giroud. Liverpool started with the regular front three with the only exception being that Henderson was on the bench and Alexander-Arnold was playing in mid field.
The first half hour was dominated by Liverpool and Courtois made a few saves to deny the Liverpool forwards. Though all the suffering led to a goal as Moses crossed to Giroud in the box to give Chelsea the lead in the 32nd minute. Once the goal was scored Liverpool seemed to lose their energy and were not able to comeback for the rest of the game.
The Chelsea team as a unit put in an amazing performance. Courtois made some important saves when called upon although most of those came in the first half. Azpilicueta, Cahill and Rudiger were solid at the back nullifying Mané, Firmino, and Salah. Rudiger in particular had Salah in his back pocket through out the game and the only notable moment for the Egyptian was to get booked for diving. The wing backs had a good performance while Fabregas was ok, but his lack of speed caught him out at times. Kante was Kante. One person who has come under a lot of stick this season has been Bakayoko, he has been poor no doubt but he is young and it is his first season. Yesterday Bakayoko put in a resolute performance, pinging balls, pushing forward and creating chances for Chelsea, it was his initial set up that Moses crossed from. Hazard was imperious while Giroud did what he was on the pitch to do and that is score.
Liverpool have now only won one game in their last 5 although that one game was probably the most important one. Now that they only have Brighton left Liverpool can focus on the Champions League final and bringing down Real Madrid.
Post match Conte praised the side and stated that Morata had a minor injury and he hoped to have him back for Huddersfield. Conte also stated that he would make rotations for the game as yesterdays fixture was a physically draining one.
Chelsea move on to a home game against Huddersfield on Wednesday. The task is the same as all the other games that are left and that is to get three points. For now Chelsea are two points behind Spurs and three points behind Liverpool, and the positivity of last season seems to have returned to Stamford Bridge.
COME ON CHELSEA!!!!
