Story of our season.
In what was a wonderful display of how to defend with 11 players Huddersfield managed to get a point and Stamford Bridge and thereby guarantee them a spot in next seasons Premier League.
Conte rang the changes for the game as Caballero, Christensen, Zappacosta, Willian, Pedro, and Morata came in to the starting XI. Chelsea dominated possession throughout the game but it was an over the top ball and poor decision making by Caballero that led to Huddersfield gaining the lead in the 50th minute via Depoitre. Chelsea managed to equalise via Alonso in the 62nd minute after the ball hit his face and went into the net. Conte had brought on Giroud and Hazard just minutes before but Huddersfield stood strong.
Football is a fickle game and fans who were praising the players last weekend were tearing them apart this weekend. Goal scoring has been Chelsea’s problem this whole season and when a team parks the bus for 90 minutes its going to even harder to score.
When the players came out for the customary lap of honour there were barely any fans left in the stadium, Conte and Luiz were the last people of the pitch and I genuinely hope that they will both be back next season.
Chelsea still have an outside chance of making top four as a win against Newcastle on the final day and a loss for Liverpool would move us into fourth. Its more than a small miracle and as fans we should start looking at joining Arsenal for Thursday nights in the Europa League.
A review of the season and what should happen next will come after the FA Cup final but, we have not lost and we still have two finals to play! COME ON CHELSEA!!!
