World Cup Day 1 Preview

Mouthwatering fixtures on Day 1.

Group A

Egypt vs. Uruguay

Egypt and Uruguay begin the day by rounding of the first gameweek for Group A. Egypt and Uruguay also happen to be the favourites to qualify from Group A and so this fixture could be massive to gain a foothold in the group. It is to be seen whether Salah will be ready for this game but he might make an appearance of the bench while Uruguay with the likes of Cavani and Suarez will be raring to go. Uruguay might just nick this game while Egypt will hope for points elsewhere.

Group B

Morocco vs. Iran

Morocco and Iran find themselves in a group which includes Spain and Portugal so odds are that they might not make it out of the group, though this is the World Cup and anything can happen. For both teams this will be the fixture that they will want to get three points from give them encouragement going into tougher fixtures. Morocco and Iran both have talented players and so this could be a close game to watch. Morocco though might gain the upper hand.

Portugal vs. Spain

Two days ago this fixture was the highlight of day one simply because these were two great teams. Fast forward to today and Portugal are going through a domestic crisis in the form of Sporting Lisbon although that should not affect the international team. Lopetegui is no longer the manager of Spain after being sacked for silently agreeing a deal with Real Madrid post World cup. Hierro will take charge of Spain for the competition and will hope that recent events do not distract the players. Portugal will be smiling at the chance to get one over their neighbours and so Ronaldo and co might just manage to get three points out of this fixture.
