Costa Rica 0 vs. 1 Serbia
In what was a very close game in Group E a stunning Kolarov free-kick in the 56th minute was the deciding factor. Costa Rica showed that they were more than up for the fight and will feel that they can get something out of their remaining games. Serbia meanwhile stood strong and now lead the group with three points.
Brazil 1 vs. 1 Switzerland
Prior to the game I felt that there would only be one winner and that would be Brazil, I was proven wrong. Brazil began the game well and converted their early chances when Coutinho struck a brilliantly curled shot into the back of the net to give Brazil the lead in the 20th minute. Brazil continued to dominate the half but failed to capitalise on more chances as finishing seems to be affecting several big teams in this World Cup. Switzerland equalised in the 50th minute after Zuber left unmarked in the box powered a header into the back of the net. Overall Brazil had 21 shots but only 5 on target and there in lies the problem for them. Switzerland had only 6 shots in the entire game and put in a really good defensive performance to ensure their point. Personally Firmino should have started ahead of Jesus as the City player provided no real threat to the goal. Brazil and Switzerland remain tied on one point.
Germany 0 vs. 1 Mexico
The result of the day came at the Luzhniki Stadium as Mexico beat holders Germany in a brilliant display of attacking football. Germany seemed to have made the mistake of underestimating their opponents and Mexico started the game of with great pace and attacking threat during the first half. Hirving Lozano finished of a brilliant counter attack on the 35th minute to give Mexico the lead. The second half showcased Mexico’s defensive discipline as Germany came one after the other at the Mexican goal. Mexico stood strong and Mexico now lead the group with 3 points while Germany are last with two games to play.
