Brazil vs. Mexico
Brazil did well in the group stage of the competition but while they managed to go unbeaten they did not impress as much as they should have. Mexico’s finished second in the group and their crowning moment has to have been their win against Germany in their first game. Brazil and Mexico are teams that are both known for their pace in attack and this game will be decided by who’s defence is more capable of handling those attacks. This game should be an open game with a couple of goals but Brazil should edge into the quarter-finals.
Belgium vs. Japan
Belgium won all three of their group games and managed to rest several of their starting XI against England. Japan edged into the knockout stage after having fewer yellow cards than Senegal, and while they have impressed in this competition with their fighting spirit this should be the end of the road for the Samurai Blue. Belgium will be up to full strength again with doubts remaining over Lukaku’s fitness while Japan have a clean bill of health. This might be a tight game and it will depend on who scores the first goal, if Belgium score then the game will be open while if Japan score then we can expect more of a park the bus vibe from the game. Belgium to win this close game.
