Chelsea vs. Man City Community Shield Preview

Football is back!!

After an amazing World Cup and a few weeks of pre-season football Chelsea are back in the annual curtain raiser for the Premier League season. Last season’s champions Man City take on FA cup winners Chelsea in the Community Shield. Chelsea and Man City have both won the competition four times with Chelsea’s last win coming in 2009 and Man City’s last win coming in 2012. Since 2009 Chelsea have had numerous chances to add more Shields to their cabinet but have not managed to win in all those cases while City have not had any decent chances since.

Last season’s games against City were a stark contrast to our title winning campaign and saw us play some of the most boring football I have seen in a while. This game should be a stark contrast to those games as with Sarri under our wing we should see some high pressing attacking football. Our opposition our no pushover’s either with Pep’s record making City hoping to start their title defence with a win. Man City played friendlies against Dortmund, Liverpool. and Bayern Munich, they lost the first two but managed to beat Bayern 3-2. City have had a number of their first team players back for a week or so with only De Bruyne, Silva, the England players, and Ederson doubtful.

Chelsea have had a decent pre-season or at least one that should be expected considering there is a new manager and numerous players are not back yet. Chelsea will not have the likes of Hazard, Kante, Michy, Cahill, Giroud and Courtois for the game but while these players have been missing from pre-season it has given Chelsea fringe players a chance to impress. The highlight of the past few games has undoubtedly been Callum Hudson-Odoi and while he is only 17 and expecting too much of him would be injustice to him we will see him start against City and maybe Huddersfield. Sarri has discarded the 3-4-3 formation and implemented 4-3-3 which combined with his high pressing and vertical triangular passes has come to be known as Sarriball. Pep is a fan and Sarri is a fan of Pep, both are friends and Pep personally cannot wait to see what Sarri can bring to English football.

Sarri has never won a trophy and while the Community Shield is no real barometer for success he and the players will be taking it seriously and Sarri himself will be seeing it as a chance to add trophy to his name. Win or lose Chelsea will be playing exciting football though I have a feeling that Sarri might just be lifting the Shield come Sunday night.

Chelsea Team Preview

Chelsea are without first team players Hazard, Kante, Willian, Michy, Giroud, Cahill and Courtois. The squad though has a few games under their belt and we should see a similar lineup to the one against Arsenal. Fabregas has a slight knock and might miss the game but it is not serious.

Man City Team Preview

Man City are without Kevin De Bruyne, David Silva, the English players and Ederson. The team though is close to their starting XI for the season and they have added Mahrez who should be fit for the game.

This is a great game for Sarri to officially start his Chelsea career. Fans will not look into the result too much but as I said I have a feeling its going to be a Chelsea win.

COME ON CHELSEA!!!
