Chelsea 4 vs. 1 Cardiff City Review

Hazard on fire!!!

Chelsea continued their winning start to the season with a thumping 4-1 victory at home to Cardiff City. The starting lineup was standard although Giroud started ahead of Morata and it proved a sensible decision.

Chelsea began the first half with tired feet as some of the lag from the international break seemed evident. The slow start allowed Cardiff City to take the lead as Sol Bamba scored in the 16th minute via a cross after our defenders failed to track his run. The goal worked in our favour as it served as a wake up call to the players. The fluidity in pressing and passing seemed to return as Chelsea began to grow into the game. One such passage of play led us to equalise in the 37th minute. Hazard got the ball at the halfway line and passed it to Giroud who layed it on for Hazard to strike it brilliantly into the bottom right corner. Giroud again assisted the second goal for Hazard in the 43rd minute after he knocked it into Hazard’s path. The second half started off where the first half ended with Chelsea on the rise as Willian’s introduction brought in more pace in the attack. A brilliant pass by Hazard allowed Willian to force Bamba into a penalty which Hazard converted in the 80th minute to give him only his second hattrick for Chelsea. Willian then added the fourth via a curler from outside the box in the 83rd minute to seal the game.

Player wise Kepa had another decent game without really being tested as he pulled of a brilliant save late in the second half. Azpilicueta seems to be getting better with each game as well as Rudiger. Luiz still seems to come with an added bonus of a mistake while Alonso was his normal self. Kante and Jorginho were faultless as usual while Kovacic had a decent game. Giroud assisted two goal and played his role brilliantly while Pedro seemed off the pace. Hazard was easily the man of the match as he seems to be improving as every game goes by. Chelsea also improved as whole when it came to shots on target as we got 7 out of 18 shots.

Flying under the radar seems to be how Chelsea will operate this season and while it does not really matter at this point we are top of the table. Sterner tests await and a gruelling period involving Europa League and League Cup games await us. Next up is PAOK in Athens as our Europa League journey begins.

COME ON CHELSEA!!!
