West Ham 0 vs. 0 Chelsea Review

West Ham continue to remain our bogey team.

Chelsea dropped their first points of the season after drawing against West Ham away. The lineup was as predicted as Giroud, Kovacic, Hazard, Luiz, and Azpilicueta returned to the starting lineup. Chelsea started off the better team as we created several chances but failed to put any of them into the back of the net. West Ham began to grow into the half and had a couple of chances of their own. The second half continued in similar fashion as Chelsea ended the game with 72% possession and 17 shots with 6 on target.

There is no real fault that can be put on the players as the travel to PAOK seemed to have a clear affect on the fitness of the XI. Sarri needs to rotate for the Europa League and League cup games and give the likes of Hudson-Odoi, and Ampadu chances but most importantly give the starting XI players rest. Kepa was probably our standout performer making some good saves, the defence was leggy, the midfield was decent but Kante seemed out of place having to play further forward. It is not Kante’s fault and he still did his normal defensive job, if he can improve on his goal scoring then that would be great. Willian continues to irritate me and I would much rather see Hudson-Odoi play but we really need a proper right winger. Giroud did not make the same impact, and Morata did not do much wrong either forcing Fabianski into a decent saves when he came on. Hazard had his first poor game of the season and he is allowed that.

The fact that we got five wins out of five was a shocker and something none of us expected. Sarri himself has stated that this is a case of gradual improvement and it will at least take us a few months to a season to reach our top form. Goal scoring continues to be a problem we need to work on and two games against Liverpool is a great barometer to test our level. Onto the league cup at Anfield and hopefully a rotated team including Ampadu, and Hudson-Odoi which give us a chance to rest players for next Saturday.

Onwards and upwards! C’mon Chelsea!!!
