Southampton 0 vs. 3 Chelsea Review

A game at a time.

The preview was not possible this week because I had no time but the review is and it was a pretty good game for Chelsea.

The lineup was expected Kepa started in goal with Azpi, Rudiger, Luiz and Alonso in front of him. Jorginho and Kante were accompanied by Barkley as was expected given that Kovacic has played a lot of minutes over the past few weeks. The front three consisted of Hazard, Giroud, and Willian. The game started off at a decent pace while Chelsea dominated for large parts Southampton got the odd chance to counter attack. Southampton seemed to have decided to defend their goal from minute one. The first goal came in the 30th minute as Barkley tackled a Southampton player to nick the ball and then made a beautiful pass to Hazard who clinically finished the goal. Southampton had some chances following the goal but Chelsea were resilient enough. The Saints started the second half positively but a free kick from Willian reached Giroud who bicycle passed it into the box for Barkley to tap in and get his first goal for Chelsea in the 57th minute. Kepa made some brilliant saves in the latter stages of the game to keep a clean sheet and a 51 pass play led Hazard to play the ball into Morata’s path for him to chip it over the goalkeeper for the third and final goal in the 93rd minute.

Player wise Kepa was brilliant once again, the defence was also great but Azpilicueta seems to be finding it difficult in the system at the moment although he should adjust soon enough. Jorginho and Kante were great but Barkley had a breakout game of sorts and showed Sarri what he can bring to the table as he was named man of the match. Hazard got another goal to make it seven in eight and keep him as the top goal scorer in the league while Giroud did not score but continued his assist streak. Willian was poor all around and still remains a player I feel should have been sold in the summer. Morata was great when he came on and a second in goal in two games will do the world for confidence. Post match Sarri stated that Chelsea could still improve in the defensive phase and that we were still behind the likes of Liverpool, and City. He did state that the Morata goal was his favourite goal yet because the build up was his style of football.

The result means that Chelsea move to second in the league behind City and ahead of Liverpool though all the three teams are on 20 points. Slowly and steadily Sarri ball is taking affect and we can only and should only take it game by game. A great start to the season, United next, and I hate that its another 12 days to that game.

COME ON CHELSEA!!!
