A performance of ups and downs gets the job done.
Chelsea continued their impressive run with another three points against local rivals Crystal Palace. Sarri started off with his straight forward starting XI although Morata started ahead of Giroud and Hazard was left on the bench. Chelsea started the game off in shaky fashion as Palace dominated play and possession but the teams began to slowly grow into the game. The momentum brought Chelsea their first goal via Morata in the 32nd minute. Chelsea held onto the lead going into the second half and started the half in positive fashion only for Townsend to score out of the blue in the 53rd minute. Palace then dominated the next ten minutes with Chelsea barely getting a touch of the ball. Sarri knew something had to change and he brought on Hazard, and Kovacic for Willian and Barkley. The impact was instant as Morata restored the lead for Chelsea in the 65th minute via a Hazard free kick. Pedro then scored in the 70th minute to seal the points for Chelsea.
Player wise Kepa had a decent game although he could have done better for the Townsend goal. Azpilicueta continued to be a bit shaky while Luiz and Rudiger were both strong in defence. Alonso was his good self providing an assist for Pedro’s goal. Barkley had a shaky game and will probably want to move on from his performance while Kante seems to be learning to play in his new position. Jorginho was quietly brilliant as usual. Willian was decent while Pedro was a constant threat although the standout performer was Morata. Morata seems to be gaining confidence with his fourth goal in four games and the game again proved that the less time Morata has to think the more likely he is to score as he missed a great solo chance in the final minutes to get his hattrick. Hazard came on to instantly impact the game while Kovacic also provided some impact. Sarri continues his good start to the season as Chelsea move on to their game against Bate in Belarus. Sarriball continues to take shape and all we as fans can do is learn along with it.
COME ON YOU BLUES!!!
