A glorified training match with no real consequence for Chelsea.
With progression and position done and dusted for Chelsea their was nothing to lose in this game as Sarri selected a totally changed lineup. Caballero started in goal with Emerson, Christensen, Ampadu, and Zappacosta making up the defence. Fabregas, Barkley and Loftus-Cheek made up the midfield while Willian, Morata, and Hudson-Odoi made up the attack. It took a while for Chelsea to break the deadlock as Willian scored a good free-kick in the 30th minute. Ampadu scored an own goal two minutes later to level things for Vidi. Nego then gave Vidi the lead in the second half but Giroud scored a brilliant free kick of his own to seal earn a draw for Chelsea.
Chelsea were below par in the game as there was nothing to play for and while it should have been a chance for the fringe players to dominate the game and make a case for selection everyone flattered to deceive. The only two players that had a decent to good game were Ampadu, and Hudson-Odoi. Loftus-Cheek, and Emerson were better in the second half while the likes of Zappacosta, and Willian did not offer much.
Either way Chelsea head into the Round of 32 while Vidi bow out of Europe. Onto the Premier Leauge and FA Cup for the rest of December before a return to the Europa League in the New Year. COME ON CHELSEA!!!
