Chelsea vs. Newcastle Preview

A return to league football.

After suffering a undeserved loss against Tottenham Chelsea now play Newcastle at home in matchweek 22 of the Premier League. The reverse fixture was won by 1-2 by Chelsea but only after Newcastle had taken a lead. Newcastle are 15th in the table after they had a poor start to the season, they did pick up a couple of wins near the end of last year to take them out of the relegation zone, they have not won in the league since the 15th of December.

Chelsea played well against Tottenham but again the lack of a striker up front was noticeable and we were not able to finish the chances we created. For this game though we should have enough fire power to beat Newcastle although if we are expecting a big victory that is not likely to happen. After starting the January window off in style with the signing of Pulisic Chelsea have slowed down since and been reduced to rumours and cheap chases of fading strikers. Either way we should be able to beat Newcastle although we can expect a tough game.

Chelsea Team Preview

Giroud, Pedro, Willian, and Kovacic all returned to join the squad and should be in a better position to stand a chance of starting. Loftus-Cheek is still out but Kovacic should start in the third midfield position. Whether Sarri goes with Giroud, or Hazard up front is up for debate although I think Hazard might start in a false 9 position.

Newcastle Team Preview

Newcastle should have a decent squad to select from and they perhaps been unlucky to gain the results they have had in the past few weeks. They have usually failed to see out games and that is an area they will have to improve on.
