Weekend Football Preview

League action returns all over Europe.

Premier League MW 23

Wolverhampton vs. Leicester

The weekend kicks off with 11th placed Wolves taking on 8th placed Leicester. Wolves and Leicester both suffered losses last weekend and are looking to recover as they fight for the 7th placed spot. Inconsistency would be the word to describe these teams but as both these teams perform on the bigger occasions. A close game that can go either way. Leicester won the reverse fixture 2-0.

Bournemouth vs. West Ham

12th vs. 9th as the Hammers travel to Bournemouth for another mid table clash. Bournemouth lost Everton last weekend while West Ham gained an impressive victory at home against Arsenal. Bournemouth have been declining in recent weeks and West Ham are the in form team. While the Cherries might make it tough for West Ham, I see the Hammers adding a point or more. Bournemouth won the reverse fixture 1-2.

Liverpool vs. Crystal Palace

Liverpool just about managed to win against Brighton as they come face to face against their bogey team Palace who are 14th in the league. Palace are another inconsistent team although they turn up against the bigger sides and could make life difficult for the league leaders. For Palace to take a point or more would be an amazing result but Liverpool should most likely add 3 more points. Liverpool won the reverse fixture 0-2.

Man United vs. Brighton

United and Ole proved that they are in good form as they beat Spurs last weekend. Brighton are 13th and do play well against the top 6 but away from home they tend to lose these fixtures. A win could take United into 5th above Arsenal but Brighton will make it difficult. Brighton won the reverse fixture 3-2.

Newcastle vs. Cardiff City

A massive clash at the bottom of the table as 18th placed Newcastle take on 17th placed Cardiff City. Newcastle have been poor recently while Cardiff have been decent, but if there was a game for Newcastle to win it would be this one. A loss would open up a 4 point gap with 17th and an even bigger job for Rafa Benitez. A tough game that could go either way. The reverse fixture was a 0-0 draw.

Southampton vs. Everton

16th vs. 10th with both teams in brilliant form. Hassenhutl has returned Southampton to winning ways while Everton are playing well under Silva. An important game for both teams as one tries to survive relegation while the other pushes for the 7th spot. Another tight game. Everton won the reverse fixture 2-1.

Watford vs. Burnley

7th placed Watford take on 15th placed Burnley. Watford are in great form as they fight with the rest of the teams for an ever changing 7th placed finish. Burnley in recent weeks have clawed themselves out of the relegation zone as they look to survive relegation. A tough game although Watford should manage to sneak the three points. Watford won the reverse fixture 1-3.

Huddersfield vs. Man City

Huddersfield are bottom of the table and 8 points off of safety and no manager in charge of them, Mark Hudson is the current care taker. With all that taken into account they entertain City this weekend and there is only one result that is visible and that is a City win. City won the reverse fixture 6-1.

Fulham vs. Tottenham

The final game of the weekend comes in the form of a London Derby as 3rd placed Spurs play 19th placed Fulham. Fulham need to win if they want to stand a chance of surviving relegation and this is probably the best chance they will get at beating Spurs. Spurs lost to United last weekend and are without Son who is at the Asian Cup, and Kane who is out injured. Spurs should still have enough to win but if Ranieri was to have another masterclass it would be great. Spurs won the reverse fixture 3-1.

La Liga MW 20

Real Madrid face a tough game against Sevilla, Atletico travel to Huesca, and Barcelona entertain Leganes. Barca lead the table and should continue to while the rest play catch up.

Serie MW 20

Serie A returns after its winter break as Roma play Torino, Inter entertain Sassuolo, Napoli play a tough game against Lazio, Milan travel to Genoa, and Juventus welcome Chievo. Juventus are 13 points clear of Napoli as things stand and its mostly a fight for second for the rest.

Bundesliga MW 18

Bundesliga also returns after its winter break as Bayern travel to Hoffenheim, Leverkusen play Monchengladbach, and Dortmund travel to Leipzig in a tough game. Dortmund have a 6 point lead in the Bundesliga with everything still to play for.

Ligue MW 21

Lille play Amiens, PSG play Guingamp, Monaco entertain Strasbourg, Marseille travel to Caen, and Lyon play St.Etienne away. The fight for 2nd and Monaco’s survival bid are the main stories for the rest of the season.
