Weekend Football Review

FA Cup 4th Round 

Arsenal 1 vs. 3 Man United

Man United romped to a win at Emirates, as Sanchez and Lingard scored in quick succession to give United the lead. Aubameyang scored before half time to give Arsenal a chance at a come back. Martial then scored in the 82nd minute to seal another win for the Red Devils and Ole. 

Shrewsbury 2 vs. 2 Wolverhampton

Docherty and Waterfall scored in the second half to give Shrewbury a 2-0 lead in the second half but Jimenez scored in the 75th minute to reduce the deficit to one and Doherty scored in the 93rd minute to level the score for Wolves and take the game to a replay at the Molineux. 

Newcastle 0 vs. 2 Watford

Gray and Success scored in the second half to help Watford progress to the 5th round while Newcastle fell short and can now focus on Premier League survival. 

Brighton 0 vs. 0 West Brom

Brighton and West Brom played out a boring draw as the game goes to a replay. 

Man City 5 vs. 0 Burnley

Man City were their ruthless selves as they put 5 goals past Burnley. Jesus, Bernardo Silva, De Bruyne, Aguero all scored with Long providing an own goal. City remain in all four competitions along with Chelsea.

Millwall 3 vs. 2 Everton

Millwall beat Everton 3-2 in a fiery game. Richarlison opened the scoring for Everton but Millwall equalised before half time through Gregory. Tosun then restored Everton’s lead in the 72nd minute but Cooper equalised for Millwall 3 minutes later. The game seemed to be heading for a replay but Millwall sealed the win thanks to a goal from Wallace in the 94th minute. 

Wimbledon 4 vs. 2 West Ham

In one of the surprising results of the round Wimbledon beat West Ham to reach the 5th round. Appiah, and Wagstaff double were enough to put Wimbledon 3-0 up in 50 minutes. Perez and Anderson then scored 2 goals within 80 minutes to give West Ham some hope, but Sibbick scored in the 88th minute to seal the win for Wimbledon.

Crystal Palace 2 vs. 0 Tottenham

Tottenham’s poor form in the absence of Kane, Son, and Alli continued as they followed up their loss to Chelsea with a loss against Palace in the 4th round. Wickham, and a Townsend penalty did the damage as Palace reached the 5th round. The last week has really put into question Spurs squad depth. 

La Liga MW 21

Sevilla thrashed Levante 5-0, Atletico beat Getafe 2-0, Barcelona beat Girona 0-2, and Real beat Espanyol 2-4 in an exciting game. Barcelona remain 5 points ahead of Atletico with Real, and Sevilla making up the top four. 

Serie MW 21

Milan and Napoli shared the spoils in a 0-0 draw, Atlanta and Roma drew 3-3 in an exciting game, Torino beat Inter 1-0, and Juventus beat Lazio 2-1 in a weekend where results went their way. Juventus open up an 11 point gap at the top with Napoli, Inter and Milan making up the top four. 

Bundesliga MW 19

Dortmund thrashed Hannover 5-1, Leverkusen beat Wolfsburg 0-3, Monchengladbach beat Augsburg 2-0, Frankfurt drew with Werder Bremen 2-2, Bayern comfortably won over Stuttgart 4-1, and Leipzig beat Dusseldorg 0-4. Dortmund still lead the table with Bayern, Monchengladbach and Leipzig making up the top four. 

Ligue MW 22

Lille beat Marseille 1-2, Dijon beat Monaco 2-0, Lyon beat Amiens 0-1, and PSG beat Rennes 4-1. PSG maintain their 13 point gap with two games in hand while Lille, Lyon, and St.Etienne make up the top four. Monaco are 19th, 4 points off safety.
