Weekend Football Review

Premier League MW 32

Fulham 0 vs. 2 Man City

Bernardo Silva and Aguero scored in the first half for what was a routine win in London for City. Fulham did well to restrict the scoreline to 2 goals. City remain 2nd with a game in hand while Fulham 16 points behind Burnley who are 17th and look likely to follow Huddersfield into the Championship. 

Brighton 0 vs. 1 Southampton

It was an important game for both teams as Brighton looked to create a bigger gap and Southampton looked to bridge that gap. Hojberg’s goal in the second half for Southampton meant that the latter became true as Brighton and Southampton remained 15th and 16th but are now level on points. 

Burnley 2 vs. 0 Wolverhampton

Coady scored an own goal in the 2nd minute and McNeil scored the second in the 77th minute to give Burnley a surprising victory against Wolves. Burnley were coming off of a run of 4 straight losses as it looked like Wolves would easily win but that was not the case. The win gives Burnley a 5 point gap from the relegation zone as they sit 17th while Wolves remain 7th but 16 points behind Chelsea who are 6th. 

Crystal Palace 2 vs. 0 Huddersfield

Milivojevic scored a penalty in the 76th minute and Aanholt sealed the deal in the 88th minute as Palace got 3 important points and officially relegated Huddersfield. Palace move into 13th with the win. 

Leicester 2 vs. 0 Bournemouth

Morgan scored in the first half and Vardy sealed the deal in the second as Leicester made it 3 straight wins under Rodgers. The win took Leicester into 8th level on points with Wolves although Wolves have a game in hand. Bournemouth remain 12th in the table. 

Man United 2 vs. 1 Watford

Rashford scored in the first half and Martial scored in the 72nd minute before Doucoure added gave some hope to Watford in the 90th minute but the time was up. United were poor for large parts of the game and Watford deserved a point at least but United held on. United remain 5th in the table 2 points behind 3rd placed Arsenal while Watford drop into 10th. 

West Ham 0 vs. 2 Everton

Zouma and Bernard scored in the first half as Everton won a crucial game in the race for top 10 finish against West Ham. West Ham dropped into 11th after the game while Everton moved into 9th. 

Liverpool 2 vs. 1 Tottenham

Firmino scored in the 16th minute but Tottenham grew into the game following the goal. Moura then equalised in the 70th minute as Tottenham missed a plethora of chances to seal the game towards the end. Alderweireld then scored an own goal in the 90th minute to seal a win for Liverpool for what was three really important points. Liverpool remain top of the table with a game in hand while Tottenham drop into 4th level on points with United who are 5th. 

Arsenal 2 vs. 0 Newcastle

Ramsey scored in the first half and Lacazette in the 83rd minute as Arsenal managed to see out Newcastle for a win. Arsenal rose to 3rd with three points while Newcastle dropped into 14th with the loss. 

La Liga MW 29

Barcelona beat Espanyol 2-0, Atletico beat Alaves 0-4, Valencia beat Sevilla 0-1, and Real Madrid managed to see out Huesca 3-2. Barcelona remain 10 points clear of Atletico while Real are 2 points behind their local rivals. Getafe remain 4th. 

Serie MW 29

Juventus beat Empoli 1-0, Milan lost to Sampdoria 1-0, Napoli beat Roma 1-4, and Lazio beat Inter 0-1. Juventus remain 15 points clear of Napoli, Napoli are 10 points clear of Inter, and Inter are 2 points clear of Milan. 

Bundesliga MW 27

Hoffenheim beat Leverkusen 4-1, Monchengladbach lost to Dusseldorf 3-1, Bayern drew with Freiburg 1-1, Dortmund beat Wolfsburg 2-0, Leipzig thrashed Berlin 5-0, and Frankfurt beat Stuttgart 3-0. Dortmund return to the top 2 points clear of Bayern who drop into 2nd. Leipzig and Frankfurt make up the top four. 

Ligue MW 30

Lyon beat Rennes 0-1, Marseille drew with Angers 2-2, Monaco lost to Caen 0-1, Lille beat Nantes 2-3, and PSG beat Toulouse 0-1. PSG remain 20 points clear with a game in hand, Lille, Lyon and St.Etienne make up the top four. Monaco are 16th.
