Chelsea 2 vs. 0 West Ham Review

Masterclass by Eden Hazard the best in the Premier League!

Chelsea and Eden Hazard had another good and world class game as we beat West Ham 2-0 at Stamford Bridge. Sarri gave Chelsea fans their first reason to be excited prior to the game as he selected another brilliant lineup. Kepa started in goal once again with Azpi, Luiz, and Emerson staying in defence, Rudiger came in for Christensen. The midfield was unchanged from the Brighton game with RLC starting alongside Jorginho, and Kante. Hazard, and CHO also kept their place with Higuain replacing Giroud. The vibe at Stamford Bridge was positive again as the game started.

The opening minutes were cagey as there was some sloppy possession by Chelsea but as usual we grew into the game and pushed West Ham back into their own half. West Ham held their formation well and were able to deal with any threat that Chelsea posed as we came close a couple of times just missing the finishing touch. The opening goal came in the 24th minute and it was one of the goals of the season and probably one of the goals in Premier League history. RLC laid the ball into Hazard a little into West Ham’s half and Hazard saw space and he dribbled past not 1 or 2 players but at least 5 to slot Chelsea into the lead. It was an amazing goal that showcased what Hazard is about. Chelsea got into gear then and dominated the first half as Higuain hit the post and we came close with a couple of other chances. West Ham started the 2nd half well as it became more of a counter attacking game with both teams taking it in turns to attack the other’s half. Chelsea though held on and Kepa made some saves as Sarri made substitutions. Barkley was first to come on for RLC, Pedro for CHO, and Giroud for Higuain. The fresh legs helped Chelsea see the game through and in the 90th minute Barkley found Hazard free in the West Ham penalty area and a brilliant pass led to another brilliant finish by Hazard to seal the three points.

Post match Sarri stated that everyone played well but when Hazard is in the mood then no team stands a chance against us. Sarri was also asked about Hazard’s future and he stated that it was not up to him but obviously he preferred if he stayed. Hazard himself replied with his customary focused on the end of the season response to any questions posed to him. It is true that because of how crucial Hazard is we can be called Hazard FC but Hazard is one of the three best players on the planet. Hazard’s departure would be a gut punch and we would never be able to replace him, only the likes of Mbappe would be a world class signing. Chelsea fans and Premier League fans in general should enjoy Hazard while we can as we never know what will happen in the future.

Chelsea Player Review

  • Kepa – Another clean sheet and made important saves when called upon, no complaints.
  • Azpilicueta – Not the best game as age seems to catching up with his legs but was solid none the less and led the team well.
  • Rudiger – Rudiger had to respond after being dropped and he played well although I still think that Christensen should be the fixed defender.
  • Luiz – Solid at the back distributing the ball as usual.
  • Emerson – Great going forward and also solid in defence as Sarri trusts him and he gains form. Emerson especially linked up well with RLC and Hazard.
  • Jorginho – A great game once again as he dictated the play and also worked in ball retention, everything went through him.
  • Kante – Amazing in the first half as he showed that new dynamics that Sarri has brought to his game. Kante was making passes into spaces, flicking balls and probably deserved a goal as well.
  • Loftus-Cheek – Another assist to his name and he completed several take ons along with CHO and Hazard. A Rolls Royce midfielder.
  • Hudson-Odoi – A good game for 60 minutes as he looked a little tired, his standout moments came defensively which would have made Sarri happy.
  • Higuain – Good in the first half but seemed to be lacking confidence, hit the post once and could have got another goal as well.
  • Hazard – The best player in the Premier League, just incredible.

Hazard looks like he will be heading to Madrid, a part of me hopes that he surprises all and stays, but if this is farewell then he is leaving us with perhaps one of his best seasons in a Chelsea shirt and also helping Chelsea in getting more money for him. Still, please stay Eden Hazard. Chelsea now travel to Prague to play in the Europa League against Slavia Praha. COME ON YOU BLUES!!!

PS: We are 3rd, 5 points ahead of United, 3 ahead of Arsenal, and 2 ahead of Spurs although they have a game in hand, and so we keep fighting.
