Weekend Football Preview
The race continues!
Premier League MW 34
Leicester vs. Newcastle
7th placed Leicester take on 15th placed Newcastle as they look to stay 7th and best of the rest. Newcastle have not won in three games losing the last two and are being drawn back into a relegation battle as they look to create distance from 18th. Newcastle need the win more than Leicester but Leicester will want to maintain their momentum. Leicester won the reverse fixture 0-2.
Tottenham vs. Huddersfield
Spurs won their first home game in the new stadium last weekend and then went on to beat City at home in the Champions League during the week. This weekend bottom of the table Huddersfield visit and it should be a 3rd straight victory even though Kane might be injured for the season. Tottenham won the reverse fixture 0-2.
Brighton vs. Bournemouth
16th placed Brighton take on 13th placed Bournemouth as both teams look to get much needed wins. A win for Brighton is of the utmost importance as they could fall down to 17th with a loss and risk the relegation zone. Bournemouth are not in any such danger but the more distance they create between them and the bottom of the table the better. Brighton are strong at home and this could be 3 points for them. Bournemouth won the reverse fixture 2-0.
Burnley vs. Cardiff City
14th placed Burnley take on 18th placed Cardiff in a must win game for the Welsh side. Cardiff are in the relegation zone and 5 points off of safety and a loss would make that 8. Burnley have done well in recent weeks to drag themselves away from the relegation zone but Cardiff will not go down without a fight. An interesting game to keep an eye on. Burnley won the reverse fixture 1-2.
Fulham vs. Everton
Fulham have already been relegated so the rest of the season is mostly a chance to save some dignity. Everton don’t have much to fight for either but they could finish 7th and have great momentum behind them having beaten Arsenal last weekend. Everton much like the other teams around them struggle against the bottom teams and so it will be interesting to see the result although Everton should win this. Everton won the reverse fixture 3-0.
Southampton vs. Wolverhampton
17th placed Southampton take on 8th placed Wolves as they seek safety from the relegation zone. Wolves played an FA Cup semi-final last weekend which they lost to Watford 3-2 and so will be hoping to end the season on a high. Southampton have done well under Hassenhutl but are still not safe and a win against Wolves would be great for them. A good game to keep an eye on. Wolves won the reverse fixture 2-0.
Man United vs. West Ham
United lost their last Premier League game and then lost to Barcelona in the Champions League and things don’t get any less cagey as West Ham visit. West Ham lost to Chelsea last weekend but played well during spells of the game as they will look to take advantage of United. United though should have enough to see out West Ham. West Ham won the reverse fixture 3-1.
Crystal Palace vs. Man City
Man City will look to go top of the table as they travel to 12th placed Palace. With Liverpool playing Chelsea this weekend this is a great opportunity to move back into 1st for City. Palace can always pose some danger but City should have enough in their tank for the win. Palace won the reverse fixture 2-3.
Watford vs. Arsenal
Watford emphatically reached the final of the FA Cup last weekend beating Wolves after going 2-0 down, and Arsenal lost last weekend to Everton but beat Napoli in the Europa League during the week. This is a London Derby and considering Arsenal’s away form this should be a brilliant game to watch. Arsenal beat Watford 2-0.
La Liga MW 32
Barcelona travel to Huesca, Atletico entertain Celta Vigo, and Real Madrid travel to Leganes. Barcelona took an 11 point lead last weekend as it looks like they will be winning La Liga this season as the rest look to finish in the best way possible.
Serie A MW 32
Juventus travel to SPAL, Roma take on Udinese, Milan take on Lazio, Napoli travel to Chievo, Inter play Frosinone, Atalanta take on Empoli. An intense weekend of football in Italy although Juventus are 20 points clear and the interesting bit is actually the race for the top four.
Bundesliga MW 29
RB Leipzig play Wolfsburg, Monchengladbach travel to Hannover, Dortmund play Mainz, Bayern travel to Dusseldorf, and Frankfurt play Augsburg. Bayern thrashed Dortmund last weekend as they went top of the table and while it’s still close the momentum is with Bayern to win the title.
Ligue 1 MW 32
Lyon travel to Nantes, Marseille take on Nimes, Monaco take on Stade Reims, and PSG travel to Lille. It is 2nd vs 1st in France this weekend although the gap between the two is 20 points so it’s not really that interesting.
