Liverpool 2 vs. 0 Chelsea Review

Not a massive defeat but our level was shown.

Chelsea travelled to Anfield knowing that a win would keep them in the top four but for Liverpool it was a massive game if they wanted to remain in the title race for the season. Sarri picked a strong lineup and one that initially appeased the fans. Kepa started in goal, Azpi, Rudiger, Luiz, and Emerson made up the back four. Jorginho, Kante, and RLC made up the midfield while Willian, Hazard, and CHO made up the attack. Sarri clearly went for a false 9 formation hoping that the players would perform in a similar way they did in the League Cup final. For 45 minutes Chelsea had a good performance while it was a fairly open game with both sides creating chances but none hitting the back of the net.

The 2nd half though saw a poor Chelsea side come out as for the upteenth time we conceded right after the whistle. This time Firmino did well to cross the ball into Mane who scored a header to give Liverpool the lead. Salah then scored a worldie to double Liverpool’s lead and silence the hateful chants he received during the week. Hazard then had to brilliant chances and Chelsea could have easily levelled the scoreline with him hitting the post and then scuffing his shot. Liverpool then woke up and saw out the rest of the game as Chelsea lost yet another match away from home and Liverpool rose back to the top of the table.

Chelsea did not have a particularly bad game it was just an off day coupled with problems that have plagued us all season. The 45-55 minute gap has always been our biggest weakness as we concede the most number of goals then while Hazard had an off day. RLC started the game off well but faded and CHO was another player who did not look up to speed. It was a good thing that Sarri brought them off because they would have received unfair criticism when it is just their first few starts. Liverpool a team that have been building for season’s now beat a team that just started building something this season there was always going to be a gulf in class especially playing the style of football we want to play. Chelsea drop into 5th level on points with Arsenal who are 4th and 1 behind Spurs who are 3rd. The race for top four is still well and truly on and Chelsea have much to play for in the final weeks of the season. COME ON YOU BLUES!!!
