Chelsea 2 vs. 2 Burnley Review

Points dropped against double decker Burnley.

Chelsea missed another chance to capitalise on others mistakes by dropping points at home to Burnley. Sarri selected a strong lineup, Kepa, Azpilicueta, Christensen, Luiz, Emerson made up the back 5 while Jorginho, Kante, and RLC made up the midfield. Hazard, Higuain, and CHO made up the attack. Chelsea started the first half at a great pace, dominating possession while Burnley were pinned back from the get go. Jeff Hendrick though opened the scoring after a Burnley corner fell kindly for him and he volleyed to put Burnley ahead. The goal though woke Chelsea up and RLC drove into the Burnley defence with the ball and passed it to Hazard who shimmied a few times before laying it into Kante’s path who finished brilliantly to equalise in the 12th minute. Higuain then gave Chelsea the lead with some great play and an emphatic finish in the 14th minute. The lead was short lived though as more poor defending during a Burnley set piece led to Barnes equalising in the 24th minute. Chelsea then suffered bad luck as CHO was brought off with a damaged Achilles which rules him out for the season. Kante was also subbed at half time for Kovacic after he suffered a back problem.

The 2nd half was spent in the Burnley half but Dyche’s men held on as Chelsea huffed and puffed but could not bring their wall down. Sarri was sent to the stands in the final minutes after he was heckled by the Burnley staff while Rudiger also got into a confrontation with the Burnley staff. The draw means that Chelsea go into 4th level on points with Spurs, a point ahead of Arsenal, and 3 ahead of United. All those 3 teams have midweek games and all we can do is hope they lose. It seems that no one wants to finish in the top four as teams keep slipping up. Chelsea have a lot to play for but the injury to CHO is a massive issue which means we will have to rely on the likes of Willian for the rest of the season. Burnley had a game plan they parked the bus and took advantage of our weaknesses, people calling them anti-football is hypocritical considering that we ourselves used to do that to win games. Now we know how Pep and Barcelona felt.

Next up for Chelsea is United away and as is every game from now till the end it is a must win. COME ON YOU BLUES!!!
