A cracker to begin the season!
Chelsea travel to Old Trafford on Sunday to play Man United on the first weekend of the Premier League season. Ole and Lamps are two managers who have similar storylines about them going into the season. Ole and Lamps are both relatively unproven, Ole is a decent legend, while Lamps is arguably the best player to have ever played for Chelsea. Ole and Lamps both face a tough task of getting into the top four and against the other 4 managers they are probably expected to finish 6th and 5th. Ole has had a good transfer window if you take the defence into account as Maguire and Wan Bissaka have come in to give United a solid back four along with De Gea. In other area’s United have weakened as Lukaku, and Herrera have left the club this summer without any substantial replacements coming in. Daniel James has joined the club from Swansea but it would be harsh to expect too much from him so early. Man United had a solid pre-season winning 5 out of their 6 games and drawing the other. United have mostly played a 4-2-3-1 formation with the full backs advancing further forward. Ole has tried to instil a pressing aspect to United’s game in line with the rest of the teams in the league. Ole has worked hard during pre-season and United have done well but still no one can expect what happens on the pitch.
Lampard conducted his first press conference on Friday in which he was asked some intriguing questions. When asked about his age Lampard said that while he was the youngest manager in the league it wouldn’t be a large factor on the team. Luiz came up and Lampard said that the two of them had an honest conversation and the conclusion was that with all the competition in the CB position Luiz would be better off if he left. When Lampard was asked what he thought about the pundits saying that Chelsea will finish outside the top four Lampard stated that he relished the challenge and it got him even more hyped up to reach the top four this season. While Lampard might have only 1-2 seasons in management he has surrounded himself by coaches who have worked with Chelsea’s various levels for many years. Lampard is raring to go and you could feel it in the press conference.
Chelsea Team Preview
Kante, Rudiger, and Willian are all still working their way back to full fitness but out of the three I expect Kante to only feature in some capacity. Lamps should stick to the 4-2-3-1 formation he used in pre-season with Kepa starting in goal, and Emerson, Christensen, Luiz, and Azpi making up the back four. Kovacic and Jorginho should start in the pivot while Pulisic, Barkley, and Pedro start further forward. I have a feeling Tammy will start the game up front.
Starting XI Prediction
It all starts here for Lamps and Chelsea, I am confident and I have a feeling Chelsea will get three points at Old Trafford on Sunday. COME ON YOU BLUES!!!
