Weekend Football Preview

MW 2 is upon us!

Premier League MW 2

Arsenal vs. Burnley

Arsenal narrowly beat Newcastle 0-1 last weekend as they entertain Burnley for their first game at the Emirates. Burnley got a resounding 3-0 win against Southampton as they travel to Arsenal with positivity. Arsenal sit 7th and Burnley are 5th, Arsenal should have players like Ozil, and Lacazette back while Pepe should start but Burnley have a good defence and so this should be an interesting game.

Aston Villa vs. Bournemouth

Villa did well away at Tottenham last weekend but fell apart in the end while Bournemouth drew with Sheffield 1-1. Villa are 15th while Bournemouth are 8th and while Bournemouth are the Premier League experienced team Villa looked great against Tottenham and so they could get their first win especially since its a home game.

Brighton vs. West Ham

Brighton got a great win against Watford away from home last weekend as they sit 4th while West Ham were thrashed by City 0-5 at home and they sit 20th. Brighton have always been good at home and will be flying high after the Watford result although West Ham will be looking to show that the City result was a one off. A close game is expected with some goals.

Everton vs. Watford

Everton drew 0-0 against Palace and Watford lost 0-3 to Brighton as the teams sit 11th and 18th before the game. Marco Silva faces his old club and will want to get the win at home while Watford and Gracia will want to bounce back from a poor result. The teams have brilliant quality and are expected to fight for top 10 positions and so this should be a very interesting game.

Norwich vs. Newcastle

Norwich lost to Liverpool 4-1 seven days ago but played good football and sit 16th. Newcastle did better than many expected against Arsenal but still lost as they sit 14th. Norwich are playing their first home game back in the Premier League and so should be bouncing to get a win. Newcastle are beatable opposition but they had good moments against Arsenal and so this game could be closer than expected.

Southampton vs. Liverpool

Southampton lost 3-0 to Burnley as they sit 17th while Liverpool beat Norwich 4-1 and sit 3rd in the table. Southampton under Hassenhutl were great during the tail end of last season but started poorly as they look to get one over Liverpool. Liverpool would have been tipped to easily win this game but a gruelling trip to Istanbul which saw them play 120 minutes against Chelsea and then win on penalties will impact the fitness of the squad. A lot of the starters were not benched and played the full game and so Southampton will feel they have a chance.

Man City vs. Tottenham

Man City thrashed West Ham 0-5, and returned to 1st while Tottenham just about managed to beat Villa and sit 6th. This is the highlight of Saturday and since it’s City’s first home game while I think it might be close Tottenham should be looking at a loss. Great game but City will most likely win.

Sheffield United vs. Crystal Palace

Sheffield did well to get a point against Bournemouth as they start the weekend 9th. Palace were decent to get a point against Everton as they sit 10th. These teams are probably going to be fighting it out at the bottom half of the table and so this should be a close game. Sheffield’s first home game back in the Premier League and so Sheffield should have a slight edge.

Wolverhampton vs. Man United

Wolves were held to a draw against Leicester and start the weekend 13th while United beat Chelsea 4-0 and sit 2nd in the table. Wolves had Europa League duty at the weekend but got through their round comfortably as they look to continue their legacy of top 6 killers this season. United were lucky to get 4 against Chelsea and should really be tested on an away trip. Wolves should win and bring Ole and co back down to earth.

La Liga MW 1

La Liga is back this weekend as Real and Atletico look to challenge Barcelona for the title. Real have made a bucket load of signings with Hazard, Jovic, Mendy, Militao and a couple more all coming into the team. Pre-season though has been poor for Madrid and there is already talk of Zidane getting sacked while Mendy is out injured. Barcelona have had a good pre-season while resting the likes of Messi. Griezmann has been the biggest signing for Barca and he has looked good in pre season. Atletico have made signings as well but the most exciting one has to be Joao Felix the Kaka look alike. Felix has been great in pre-season and should be one to watch this season. Elsewhere Betis have made some good signings a shocking one being Nabil Fekir. Barcelona travel to Athletic Bilbao for the first game on Friday, Real Madrid travel to Celta Vigo, Sevilla take on Espanyol, and Atletico take on Getafe.

Bundesliga MW 1

Bundesliga also returns this weekend as Dortmund look to make a better challenge for the title against Bayern. Dortmund have made a sleuth of intelligent signings, Thorgan Hazard, Hummels, Nico Schulz, and Julain Brandt have all come in to strengthen the team. Lucas Hernandes, Peresic, and Pavard have been the major signings at Bayern with a lot of stars leaving such as Robben, and Ribery. Jann Fiete Arp has also joined the Bavarain club. Bayern welcome Hertha Berlin, Dortmund welcome Augsburg, Monchengladbach take on Schalke, Frankfurt take on Hoffenheim, and Leipzig travel to Union Berlin.

Ligue MW 2

Lyon take on Angers, Marseille travel to Nantes, Monaco travel to Metz, Lille travel to Amiens, and PSG travel to Rennes. Some surprise results in MW 1 but the usual suspects continued to win while Neymar seems to be heading out of PSG.
