Weekend Football Preview

All the leagues are a go!

Premier League MW 3

Aston Villa vs. Everton

17th placed Aston Villa take on 9th placed Everton as Villa seek their first points of the season. Everton have won one and drawn one as they beat Watford narrowly last week. Aston Villa lost to Bournemouth but still challenged them and have looked decent in their games. For Villa point would be great while Everton will look to continue their good start hopefully with Kean starting his first game.

Brighton vs. Southampton

5th placed Brighton welcome Southampton who are struggling at 19th. Brighton have done really well at the start of the season and Southampton have had the polar opposite as they sit in the relegation zone. Southampton are looking to get their first points but Brighton are always strong at home and so the Seagulls should be looking at another 3 points.

Man United vs. Crystal Palace

Man United sit 4th having beaten Chelsea and drawn against Wolves as they entertain 14th placed Crystal Palace who have a point to their name but lost to Sheffield last week. United and Pogba in particular faced some unwarranted criticism over the missed penalty last week and so this should be an interesting game. Palace tend to bring their A game against the big 6 so the result could go either way.

Sheffield United vs. Leicester

Sheffield sit 8th in the league having drawn one and won one while Leicester sit 12th having drawn both their games including a 1-1 draw against Chelsea last weekend. Before I would have said that Leicester have a good opportunity for a win but Sheffield are buoyant after getting their first win and this could be a tricky away game for the Foxes. Miller has got Sheffield playing some interesting football which includes some version of overlapping centre backs so anything can happen.

Watford vs. West Ham

20th placed Watford take on 16th placed West Ham for a clash that should have consisted of two teams in a better position. These teams are supposed to be challenging for a top 10 position and have good managers, it’s still early days but right now it’s not looking good. Either way both of these teams need a win and so it should be a very close game.

Liverpool vs. Arsenal

The clash of the top two as 1st placed Liverpool take on 2nd placed Arsenal. The teams are unbeaten and it could remain that way if the game is a draw but really one of the teams should lose. Liverpool have won their games but looked shaky at the back and seem to have reverted to a score more than the opposition approach for now. Arsenal have won both their games as well but looked far from convincing and their defence is far from great. Arsenal might get a goal but Liverpool at Anfield should be too much for the gunners and they should come back down to Earth this weekend.

Bournemouth vs. Man City

7th placed Bournemouth take on 3rd placed City who drew their game against Spurs last weekend thanks to VAR. Bournemouth have done well so far and look solid as a team and since they are at home they should make it interesting for City. City will be raging after dropping points and will want to reply with a good win against the Cherries.

Tottenham vs. Newcastle

6th placed Tottenham welcome 18th placed Newcastle as they aim to continue a decent start to the season. Newcastle have not won any points yet but they have not looked bad in their games. Newcastle though face tough competition and Tottenham should make it an easy win especially on a weekend when Liverpool and Arsenal play against each other.

Wolverhampton vs. Burnley

13th placed Wolves look for their first win having drawn their first two as Burnley who sit 10th having lost last week to Arsenal. Wolves have been busy in recent weeks as they have been involved in the Europa League as well. Wolves drew against United on Monday and then beat Torino in Turin on Wednesday in a tough 2-3 win. Burnley are good opposition and caused Arsenal problems but Wolves look strong but tired. This should be a good game but Wolves could get their good win.

La Liga MW 2

Sevilla travel to Granada, Real Madrid entertain Valladolid, Atletico travel to Leganes, and Barcelona take on Real Betis. Barcelona by far face a tougher fixture than the rest as they look to gain ground on the rest having lost to Bilbao last weekend. Betis are a good team and can cause Barca problems. Messi is back in training but still far from match fit while the rest try to gain as big a gap they can from the Catalonian side.

Serie MW 1

Serie A returns to our screens this weekend for what should be a great season in Italy. There have been many ins and outs in Italy this summer from all aspects as Conte is back coaching Inter Milan, Sarri has taken over at Juventus, Napoli are in their second season under Ancelotti, AC Milan have hired Giampaolo, and Roma have brought in Paolo Foncesca. Player wise Lukaku has come over to Inter with Sanchez rumoured to be joining soon. Juventus have been busy with De Ligt, Ramsey, Rabbiot, and Buffon some of the major incomings. The rest have made some decent signings such as Manolas moving to Napoli from Roma but none of real fame. It should be an interesting clash of styles in Italy this season and Chelsea fans in particular will find it interesting to see how Conte, Sarri, and Ancelotti play against each other. Juventus travel to Parma for the first game of the season as Sarri will not be travelling due to recovering from Pneumonia. Napoli travel to Fiorentina, Milan travel to Udinese, Roma take on Genoa, Inter take on Lecce, and Atalanta who did really well last season take on SPAL. It is an interesting opening weekend with tough fixtures between several teams.

Bundesliga MW 2

Dortmund travel to Koln on Friday, Hoffenheim take on Werder Bremen, Monchengladbach travel to Mainz, Bayern travel to Schalke, and Leipzig entertain Frankfurt. A tough weekend in German football ahead with top teams facing each other. Bayern look to get their first win while teams like Dortmund and Leipzig look to maintain the gap from the rest.

Ligue MW 3

Struggling Monaco take on Nimes, Rennes travel to Strasbourg, PSG take on Toulouse, Lyon take on Montpellier, Lille travel to St.Etienne, and Marseille take on Nice. PSG and Lille have already lost this season while Lyon and Rennes are flying high. Marseille and Monaco are struggling as some change seems to be taking place in France.
