Chelsea vs. Sheffield United Preview

Go into the international break on a high!

Chelsea take on 9th placed Sheffield United as we look to break into the top 10 before the international break. Sheffield like many of the teams in the league at the moment have won one, lost one, and drawn one. Sheffield are a newly promoted team managed by Chris Wilder who finished 2nd in the Championship last season. Last week Sheffield lost to Leicester 1-2 but similar to Norwich and Aston Villa they have impressed in their games since the season started. Sheffield tend to play a 3 man defence with wing backs but Wilder has got his team to play a weird system where the centre backs bomb forward. If Aston Villa are a defensive team and Norwich are an offensive team then Sheffield are somewhere in the middle with a more cautious approach. One can expect Wilder and co to play on the counter letting Chelsea have possession and defending well. Last season Sheffield lost to Lampard’s Derby County away from home while they won at home.

Since the defeat to United Lampard and Chelsea have been on an upward trajectory albeit slowly. A draw in the Super Cup agains Liverpool, then a draw against Leicester in the league where Chelsea perhaps showed their youth and lack of experience with poor game management. The game against Norwich was tough but Chelsea got the win and unlike Leicester we managed our energy levels and the game well. With teams around us either in poor form or playing tougher opposition we should really take advantage and push for the three points as our return fixtures after the international break are rather tough.

Chelsea Team Preview

Kante, Rudiger, and Pedro are all out injured going into the game. Kepa will start in goal as usual, Emerson at left back where he has quietly impressed over the last three games, Christensen, Zouma at the centre, and Azpilicueta at right back. Jorginho and Kovacic played well against Norwich with Kovacic rather impressive and so they should start in the pivot. Mount, Barkley, and Pulisic should start behind Tammy upfront. Tammy impressed against Norwich and it will be interesting to see if he can pick up a few more goals while Mount has been rewarded with an England call up due to his good form. Pulisic should get a goal to boost his confidence and silence some of the doubters while Barkley needs to show positive signs as well because post international break CHO will slot right in to the team.

Starting XI Prediction

A tough game with a more defensive team than Norwich, Chelsea will have to be clinical and scoring the first goal is a must for the win. COME ON YOU BLUES!!!
