It’s been 14 long days but league football is back!!
Premier League MW 5
Liverpool vs. Newcastle
The first fixture of the weekend takes place in Liverpool as the league leaders take on 14th placed Newcastle. Newcastle did well to beat Spurs a couple of weeks ago but Liverpool are a different kettle of fish. Liverpool like when the opposition sits back and since the game is at Anfield I expect an easy win for Liverpool.
Brighton vs. Burnley
16th vs 12th as Brighton go in search of their first win since opening weekend, while Burnley have also not won since opening weekend. The Seagulls are strong at home but Burnley are relatively strong defensively and so this should be a tight game with one or two goals dividing the team. This fixture could go either way, although Ashley Barnes for Burnley is the in form forward.
Man United vs. Leicester
5 seasons ago this would have been a guaranteed win for United but things have changed since then and Leicester are the favourites going in to this game. United are 8th and Leicester are 3rd in the table, United have not won since opening day while Leicester are unbeaten in the league. United have a couple of injuries to contend with while Leicester have a fit squad to take on their trip. Leicester might not keep a clean sheet maybe Daniel James will score but Leicester should win this game.
Sheffield United vs. Southampton
10th vs. 13th as newly promoted Sheffield take on uneven Southampton. Sheffield drew their last game while Southampton have managed 4 points in their last two games after losing the first two. Sheffield have shown promise much like the Norwich and Villa and it will be a tough trip for the Saints.
Tottenham vs. Crystal Palace
Palace are 4th in the table having won their last two as they travel to Spurs for a London Derby who are 9th. Spurs much like a few other teams have not won since opening day but they have some key players back from injury like Alli, and Ndombele. Palace have shown great resilience in their games and were pretty lucky against Villa 2 weeks ago but Tottenham on paper should have enough to beat the Eagles. If Palace are strong defensively they could manage a point though.
Norwich vs. Man City
Newly promoted and 19th placed Norwich entertain 2nd placed City looking to cause an upset that is not on the cards. Norwich played great expansive football in the Championship last season and have tried to continue that way in the League but they have been caught out several times and so have lost three of their 4 games. The silver lining has been Pukki who has carried his form into the Premier League. City had a blip against Spurs but have been their ruthless self and one has to believe that if Norwich are open as they usually are then they will get thrashed.
Bournemouth vs. Everton
15th placed Bournemouth take on 6th placed Everton who are showing signs of pushing the top 6 this season. Bournemouth have improved as games have gone on and Harry Wilson has been impressive going forward. Everton have more quality though but his should be a close game with a slip up leading to the win.
Watford vs. Arsenal
Watford were great last season but things have not been peachy this season as they managed their first point 2 weeks ago. Gracia was sacked a couple of days ago and Flores was brought back for a 2nd spell as they look to reboot. The next few fixtures are not expected to yield any points as they are mostly against top 6 opposition but a surprise can always occur. 5th placed Arsenal are the first visitors as they look to win after not having won since MW 2. Watford are down on their luck and there for the kill but a new manager bounce can bring some unexpected results.
Aston Villa vs. West Ham
A London Derby on Monday as 7th placed West Ham travel to 18th placed Villa. Villa find themselves in the relegation zone but have shown flashes of brilliance to prove that they probably wont be in the bottom three come next year. West Ham started slow but have found form with Haller finding his groove in a new league. West Ham have a strong team and they probably will win but it will be a close one.
La Liga MW 4
Real Madrid take on Levante as a certain Eden Hazard might make his debut for the club on Saturday. Atletico travel to Real Sociedad for a tricky fixture as they look to continue their winning start. Barcelona entertain Valencia in another tricky fixture with Messi and Suarez potentially still missing. Sevilla travel to Alaves. An entertaining weekend of Spanish football but for me being a Chelsea fan the highlight will be if Hazard starts and does well.
Serie A MW 3
Juventus travel to Fiorentina, Napoli take on Sampdoria as their stadium undergoes renovation, high flying Inter entertain Udinese, Atalanta travel to Genoa, Roma take on Sassuolo, and Milan travel to Verona. A tricky weekend of football in Italy with a certain Sanchez potentially making a debut for Inter.
Bundesliga MW 4
Monchengladbach take on Koln away from home, Dortmund entertain Leverkusen, Frankfurt travel to Augsburg, and Bayern travel to Leipzig in the clash of the weekend. Dortmund will look to catch up on the rest after dropping points while Bayern and Leipzig is a clash of the current top two.
Ligue 1 MW 5
Lille take on Angers, Lyon travel to Amiens, PSG take on Strasbourg, Nice take on Montpellier, Rennes are away at Brest, and Monaco take on Marseille. Interesting fixtures in Ligue 1 with PSG leading the way once again after a tricky start.
