Weekend Football Preview

Storylines shaping up!

Premier League MW 7

Sheffield United vs. Liverpool

10th placed Sheffield United are up next for league leaders Liverpool as they look to make it 7/7. Sheffield have done quite well for a newly promoted team and have some ingenious tactics that they use. Liverpool rested quite a few players in their midweek fixture and so Firmino, Salah, and Mane should be raring to go. Potential stumbling block yes but it should be another win for the table toppers.

Aston Villa vs. Burnley

Aston Villa collapsed against Arsenal after having played well for large parts of the game as they sit 18th in the table. Burnley are doing well this season as they sit 9th in the table looking to progress further up the table. This should be a cagey affair with two defensive teams and Villa will really be looking for a win. A tough game that can go either way.

Bournemouth vs. West Ham

A top 6 clash as Bournemouth who are 6th take on West Ham who are 5th. The teams have done extremely well in recent weeks especially taking into account how poor the likes of United and Spurs have been. This should be an entertaining clash with West Ham having beaten United but then losing to Oxford midweek 4-0. A good game whose edge I would give to Bournemouth.

Crystal Palace vs. Norwich

12th placed Crystal Palace take on 16th placed Norwich as the two look for wins. Norwich have done well but have played a lot of the top 6 and so they might finally have a few decent fixtures to build upon. Norwich should have enough for Palace who are good on their day but not great.

Tottenham vs. Southampton

7th placed Tottenham entertain 13th placed Southampton as only a point separates them. Tottenham have not been great and got dumped out by Colchester midweek in the Carabao Cup. The pressure is piling on Pochettino and southampton could be the perfect opponents to play. Southampton on their day can beat the top teams and if they stay strong defensively then they could get a point or more.

Wolverhampton vs. Watford

The bottom two go head to head as struggling Wolves take on thrashed Watford. Watford have a tough run of games before they finally can build something and will be hoping for a point at least after losing 8-0 to City last weekend. Wolves have struggled due to Europa League duties but have plodded on and a first win in the league could take them out of the relegation zone.

Everton vs. Man City

Struggling Everton who are 14th take on 2nd placed City who are fresh off of thrashing Watford. Marco Silva is facing some issues and looking for form while City after losing to Norwich are looking to thrash more teams. If Everton do not stay stuck in and solid then this could be a very sad game for the home team.

Leicester vs. Newcastle

High flying Leicester who sit 3rd take on Newcastle who are 17th and desperate for a win. Leicester have shown that they can turn it up for the big teams like Spurs but have struggled for form against lower opposition like United and so this should be an interesting game. With several of the normal big 6 in poor form this might be another 15/16 opportunity for Leicester to take advantage and get a top four finish. Newcastle have now won in 3 as they look to at least manage a point.

Man United vs. Arsenal

Monday night football as 8th placed Man United take on 4th placed Arsenal. United are in extremely poor form and show no signs of moving the other way as they struggled to get past Rochdale on penalties in the Carabao Cup. United lost to West Ham last weekend and Arsenal won against Aston Villa although they made it tough for themselves. Two teams which you really don’t know what to expect from. Arsenal should win this game especially if the likes of Bellerin or Teirney feature at the back while United would do well to get a draw.

La Liga MW 7

La Liga had interesting midweek fixtures in which the top teams struggled. Barcelona travel to Getafe, Sevilla take on Real Sociedad, but the biggest clash is in Madrid as Atletico take on Real with the teams clashing at the top. Real could create a nice gap while Atletico could bring Real back down. The teams have been in decent form but this could be a big test for Zidane with his future in doubt.

Serie MW 6

Juventus take on SPAL, Inter travel to Sampdoria, Atalanta take on Sassuolo, Napoli welcome Brescia, Roma travel to Lecce, and Milan take on Fiorentina. Serie A had an entertaining midweek of football but Inter are looking to make it 6/6 while the rest play catch up.

Bundesliga MW 6

Frankfurt take on Union Berlin, Monchendgladbach travel to Hoffenheim, Bayern are going to be at Paderborn, Leipzig welcome Schalke, and Dortmund play Werder Bremen. Bundesliga did not have midweek fixtures as the normal teams of Bayern and Dortmund play catchup to Leipzig.

Ligue MW 8

Lyon take on Nantes, PSG travel to Bordeaux, Monaco take on Brest, Nice play Lille, and Marseille take on Rennes. Ligue 1 is turning out to be more entertaining than the last few seasons especially because PSG look beatable. The rest are still playing catch up but the league could finally get interesting.
