Match day 2 in Europe!
Galatasaray vs. Paris Saint Germain
Galatasaray sit 3rd in the table as they entertain table toppers PSG in Istanbul. Galtasaray drew against Brugge on MD 1 and have since drawn both their games domestically. Galatasaray sit 7th in the Turkish Superliga. PSG dominated Real Madrid on MD 1 as they beat them 3-0 and have since won 2 and lost 1 in Ligue 1. They have moved back to the top of the league while Mbappe is newly fit and ready to go. PSG might struggle away from home and our beatable especially since Real are going through their own rough patch. PSG should win on paper but Galatasaray have the potential to nick a result.
Real Madrid vs. Club Brugge
Real Madrid sit bottom of the table having lost to PSG while Brugge are 2nd with a point. Real have since won 2 and drew 0-0 against Atletico during the weekend. Real are going through a rough patch with Zidane facing pressure even though Real are top of La Liga. Hazard has not clicked yet and there are several questions on the squad although Real did keep 3 clean sheets in a row for the first time under Zidane. Brugge have won all three of their games domestically since MD 1 scoring 10 goals in the process as they sit top of their League. Two domestic leaders go head to head and it’s a similar case to the other game in this group, Real should win easily but are beatable and Brugge will know that.
Tottenham vs. Bayern Munich
2nd placed Tottenham take on 1st placed Bayern Munich in this Group B clash. Tottenham led 2-0 against Olympiacos on MD 1 before conceding two in the 2nd half. They have since won 2 and lost to Colchester on penalties in the Carabao Cup, as they sit 5th in the league. Bayern won comfortably on MD 1 and have since won both their games as they have gone top of the Bundesliga. Bayern had a shaky start to the season but have picked up form and Coutinho has clicked as they are back at the top. Tottenham have been no where near their best and look a shadow of a team at the moment and while they can always turn up for games Bayern if clinical could easily dispatch of the North London team.
Red Star Belgrade vs. Olympiakos
Red Star sit bottom of the table as they welcome Olympiakos to Serbia. Red Star lost to Bayern on MD 1 and have since lost 1 and won 2 domestically. Olympiakos have drawn 1 and won 1 since they fought back for a point against Spurs. Olympiakos are 1st in their league while Red Star are 2nd and really these two teams will be fighting for the Europa League spot.
Man City vs. Dinamo Zagreb
The table leaders go head to head as City entertain Dinamo Zagreb. Man City beat Shakhter 3-0 then thrashed Watford 8-0 and then scored 6 more goals in the next two games as they are flying high but 2nd in the Premier League. Zagreb beat Atalanta 4-0, and have since lost 1 and won 2 scoring 11 goals as they sit 2nd in their league as well. Two teams in similar form although in very different leagues, City should win on paper but as Norwich showed us they are beatable and a disciplined performance by Zagreb could yield a positive result for them.
Atalanta vs. Shakhtar Donetsk
The two losers from the last MD go head to head as they look to gain ground on the rest. Atalanta have drawn one and won 2 in Serie A as they sit 3rd in the league while Shakhtar have won both their games as well as they sit top of their league. Atalanta have a good squad and play better opposition every week and since they are at home I would give the Italians an edge. Shakhtar are veterans in the Champions League though and know how to manage results.
Lokomotiv Moskva vs. Atletico Madrid
Lokomotiv sit top of the group as they welcome Atletico to Russia. Lokomotiv have since won 2 and lost 1 domestically as they sit 2nd in their league. Atletico played an entertaining 2-2 draw against Juventus on MD 1 and have since drawn 2 and won 1 as they sit 3rd in their league. Atletico have the superior squad but have struggled this season at moments and Russia is always a tough place to go. This game could go either way.
Juventus vs. Bayer Leverkusen
Juventus have won all three of their games since drawing against Atletico as they sit 2nd in Serie A. Leverkusen have won both their games since their defeat as they sit 6th in their table. Juventus are slowly clicking under Sarri and Leverkusen should be a good game for them to stretch their legs. Juventus should win this game.
Liverpool vs. Red Bull Salzburg
Liverpool lost to Napoli on MD 1 but have since won all three of their games domestically albeit unconvincingly as they remain on a winning streak domestically and welcome group leaders Red Bull. Red Bull thrashed Genk 6-2 on the opening day, and have since drawn 1 and won 2 as they sit top of the Austrian league. Red Bull have an exciting young striker in Haaland hopefully fit for the game. Liverpool have not been at their best and are their for the taking but this game is at Anfield and Liverpool should get their first point or points in the Champions League.
Genk vs. Napoli
Genk got thrashed on MD 1 and have since won 2 and drawn 1 domestically as they sit 6th in their league. Napoli got a massive win against Liverpool but have since won 2 and lost 1 domestically as they sit 4th in Serie A. Genk are a good team but with Red Bull’s form they are looking at a 4th placed finish and bar some miracle Napoli should win this game.
Slavia Praha vs. Borussia Dortmund
The group of draws as all four teams managed a point on MD 1 and Praha sit top while Dortmund sit bottom. Praha have since scored 12 goals in 3 games domestically as they top of their league while Dortmund have drawn both their games since drawing against Barca as they sit 8th. Dormtund have plenty going forward but have struggled defensively and an away trip to a free scoring Praha is not a great game for them. This fixture could go either way.
Barcelona vs. Inter Milan
Barcelona have lost 1 and won 2 since their game against Dortmund as they sit 4th in La Liga. Inter have won all three of their games since MD 1 and sit top of Serie A with a perfect record as Conte continues his revolution in Milan. Barcelona have looked shaky but if Conte has a flaw it has been his European form. Plenty of players were rested for Inter during the weekend and with Messi out again this could be an interesting game.
Zenit vs. Benfica
Zenit drew on MD 1 as they sit 2nd and welcome Benfica who are bottom and lost last MD. Zenit have since won 2 and lost 1 as they sit 5th in their league while Benfica have won 1 and drawn 1 as they sit 2nd as well. This is the toughest group to predict and this game as any in this group can go either way.
RB Leipzig vs. Olympique Lyon
Leipzig have won 1 and lost 1 as they sit 2nd in the Bundesliga and top of Group G, Lyon have lost two and drawn one since their point on MD 1 and sit 11th in Ligue 1. Lyon have struggled for form this season and have not been able to replicate last seasons performances. Leipzig should be looking for a win especially since Lyon look the weakest of the four teams on form.
Valencia vs. Ajax
Valencia beat Chelsea on MD 1 and Ajax beat Lille as the two winner go head to head. Valencia have since drawn 2 and won 1 of their games as they sit 9th in the table while Ajax have won 2 and drawn 1 of their games as they sit top of the Eredivisie. Ajax have the better form overall but Valencia were solid defensively even with all their internal turmoil. Ajax should win but Valencia could manage a point.
