A good performance and win needed.
Chelsea travelled to Lille on Tuesday for their matchday 2 game on Wednesday. Lille lost to Ajax on matchday 1 and Chelsea lost to Valencia as both teams look to gain lost ground. Lille were a revelation last season as they finished 2nd in Ligue 1 last season, it is their first appearance in the Champions League for since they won Ligue 1 with the likes of Hazard. Lille have since drawn with Rennes, beaten Strasbourg 2-0, and then drew with Nice 1-1. Lille sit 4th in the league 4 points behind PSG as they continue their progression. Lille have focused on youth and progressive football under Christophe Galtier with players like Renato Sanches, Timothy Weah, Maia, Araujo, and our own Loic Remy. It is hard to predict what formation Lille will employ with 4-4-2, and 3-4-3 being used on occasion.
Chelsea lost to Valencia and then lost to Liverpool in a close game. Chelsea followed those losses up with a win against Grimsby, and a win against Brighton which also had our first clean sheet. Chelsea have progressed throughout these early few weeks and now we need to carry that progression into the Europe. Going forward Chelsea have several option and tons of creativity to score but our finishing costs us on many occasions. At the back our problems have been evident but it’s been silly individual mistakes rather than collective poor play. There are signs of improvement on the defensive end but up top we have to start finishing the chances we create.
Chelsea Team Preview
Lampard has stated that Kante, Zouma and Giroud are back while Rudiger remains out. Chelsea should rotate but not too heavily as we seek a win. Kepa should start in goal, Alonso at left back, Tomori, and Zouma as centre backs, and Reece James at right back. Kante and Jorginho should start in the midfield with Mount at CAM. Up front Hudson-Odoi, Michy and Pulisic should start. This is the lineup I hope starts but I have a feeling one of Willian or Pedro could start.
Starting XI Prediction
Players like CHO, and Reece James if selected have a great game to get points for themselves while Pulisic needs to start clicking and a first goal would do him well. Lille is a tough team but we have done well away from home. COME ON YOU BLUES!!!
