Some surprising results and one thrashing!
Galatasaray 0 vs. 1 Paris Saint Germain
Icardi scored the only goal of the game in the 2nd half as PSG made it two wins out of two in their group. Galatasaray remain 3rd with a point to their name while PSG are clear at the top with a gap of four.
Real Madrid 2 vs. 2 Club Brugge
Club Brugge looked like they would get turned over at least on paper but they came to the Bernabeu with good form and knowing that Real Madrid were vulnerable. Bonaventure scored in the 9th and 39th minute to give Brugge a 2-0 lead at half time. Courtois was abysmal and was taken off at half time as Real looked to get back in the game. Ramos got one back in the 55th minute and Casemiro equalised in the 85th minute after Vormer had been sent off for Brugge in the 84th minute. Real could not complete the comeback but managed the point as they kick off their campaign. Real sit bottom of the group with Zidane’s future looking perilous by the day while Brugge are 2nd with two points.
Tottenham 2 vs. 7 Bayern Munich
The biggest result of the matchday as Bayern thrashed Tottenham in London. Last years finalists are enduring a tough start to the season but no one had this scoreline in mind. Things got off to a great start for Poch with Son scoring in the 12th minute. Kimmich equalised in the 15th minute and Lewandowski gave Bayern the lead right before half time with an expert finish. Spurs seemed to have lost it in the 2nd half as ex Arsenal player Gnabry went on a rampage. Gnabry made it three in the 53rd minute and 4 in the 55th minute. Kane got one back in the 61st minute via the penalty spot but it only angered Bayern more and Gnabry completed his hattrick in the 83rd minute. Lewandowski then pitched in with one more in the 87th minute and Gnabry added the final goal in the 88th minute. Bayern top the group with 6 points while Tottenham are 3rd and reeling after the result. Pressure piles on Poch as it looks like his time in North London might be coming to an end.
Red Star Belgrade 3 vs. 1 Olympiakos
Ruben Semedo gave Olympiakos the lead int he 37th minute but a 2nd half red card to Benzia seemed to lead to a collapse from the Greek team. Vulic, Milunovic, and Baokye scored in the final 30 minutes to seal a comeback for Red Star. Red Star go clear in 2nd while Olympiakos remain bottom of the table.
Man City 2 vs. 0 Dinamo Zagreb
A tough first half in Manchester with neither team getting a break through but Sterling scored in the 66th minute and Foden got a rare goal in the 95th minute as City got their win. City make it 2/2 as they sit at the top while Dinamo remain 2nd on goal difference.
Atalanta 1 vs. 2 Shakhtar Donetsk
Zapata gave Atalanta a lead in the first half but Moraes equalised for Shakhtar right before half time. Solomon scored a 95th minute winner as the Ukrainians stole all three points from the Italians. Shakhtar move to 3rd on goal difference while Atalanta remain bottom with zero points.
Lokomotiv Moskva 0 vs. 2 Atletico Madrid
Felix, and Partey scored in the 2nd half as Atletico got three points and their first win in Europe for the season. Lokomotiv remain 3rd with 3 points while Atletico are 2nd on goal difference with 4 points.
Juventus 3 vs. 0 Bayer Leverkusen
Higuain scored in the 17th minute while Bernardeschi and Ronaldo added goals in the 2nd half to make it a comfortable win for the Italian champions. Juventus sit top on goal difference while Bayer are bottom with zero points.
Liverpool 4 vs. 3 Red Bull Salzburg
Mane, Robertson, and Salah scored within 36 minutes of the first half to give Liverpool a 3-0 lead and make it seem like Red Bull were long gone. Hee-Chan got one back for Red Bull 3 minutes later as they headed into half time with some hope. Minamino then scored one more for Red Bull in the 56th minute and Haland equalised in the 60th minute to make it an incredible comeback. Liverpool though like they have done for much of this season scraped a win with Salah scoring in the 69th minute. Liverpool and Red Bull are level on points but Liverpool are ahead on goal difference.
Genk 0 vs. 0 Napoli
No highlights from this game as Genk held Napoli at home with the Italians not being able to break down the home team. Napoli lead the group with four point while Genk sit bottom with a point.
Slavia Praha 0 vs. 2 Borussia Dortmund
Hakimi scored in each half to seal a good win for Dortmund away at Slavia Praha. Dortmund go top of the group on goal difference while Slavia are 3rd on goal difference with 1 point.
Barcelona 2 vs. 1 Inter Milan
Martinez scored in the 2nd minute to give Inter a lead and the Italians held the lead going into the 2nd half. Valverde though seems to have given Suarez something and goals in the 58th minute and 84th minute sealed a comeback win for the Spaniards. Conte’s misfortune against Barcelona continues as they sit bottom of the group on goal difference while Barcelona are 2nd on goal difference.
Zenit 3 vs. 1 Benfica
Dzyuba scored in the 21st minute and an own goal in the 2nd half from Ruben Dias and and third from Azmoun gave Zenit a comfortable 3-0 lead. Tomas scored a consolation goal for Benfica as they sit bottom of the group, while Zenit are top of the group with 4 points.
RB Leipzig 0 vs. 2 Olympique Lyon
Depay scored in the first half and Terrier in the 2nd as Lyon dominated Leipzig and got a first win in Europe for the season. Leipzig move down to 3rd with three points while Lyon move to 2nd on 4 points behind Zenit on goal difference.
Valencia 0 vs. 3 Ajax
Ziyech and Promes scored in the first half while Van de Beek scored in the 2nd half to give Ajax a comfortable win in Valencia. Ajax make it 2/2 as they sit clear at the top while Valencia drop down to 3rd on goal difference behind Chelsea.
