Weekend Football Preview

Final weekend before the break.

Premier League MW 8

Brighton vs. Tottenham

Brighton are looking for their first win since the opening weekend as they entertain Tottenham who sit 6th in the table. Brighton are 16th but have shown good football but have not converted that into points. Tottenham won last weekend but were thrashed by Bayern during the week and so they will be seeking some redemption. An interesting game which Brighton could manage a few points from.

Burnley vs. Everton

11th placed Burnley take on 15th placed Everton in a mid table clash as Burnley look to maintain their decent run of form. Everton have been poor in recent weeks but played well until the final few minutes against City last weekend. An interesting game which could go either way as they look to enter the international break on a high.

Liverpool vs. Leicester

Leaders Liverpool take on 3rd placed Leicester in a top of the table clash. Liverpool just managed to get three points against Sheffield last weekend and looked like they were cruising against Salzburg but they conceded three in quick succession and again won the game in the final few minutes. Leicester thrashed Newcastle last weekend and are said to be one of the challengers for a top four spot but they fell to United and so this big six opposition will be a test for them. Leicester could take points off of Liverpool let’s see what Rodgers can do on his return to the club.

Norwich vs. Aston Villa

17th vs. 18th as the 2 of the 3 newly promoted sides go head to head. The teams have impressed in flashed and Norwich beat City but they have not been able to sustain their performances of 90 minutes. This fixture can go either way and a win could take either team farther from the relegation zone.

Watford vs. Sheffield United

Bottom side Watford entertain Sheffield who are 12th as Watford search for their first win of the season. This game will not be an easy one for Sanches and his men as Wilder has a solid team at Sheffield and were unlucky to not get a point against Liverpool last weekend. Sheffield should win this but Watford will feel they have a chance.

West Ham vs. Crystal Palace

A London derby and a top 10 clash as 5th placed West Ham take on 9th placed Palace. These teams have improved a lot over the last few weeks and so this game should be an entertaining one. West Ham have the better squad but this game could go either way.

Arsenal vs. Bournemouth

4th placed Arsenal take on 8th placed Bournemouth. Arsenal are unbeaten in four but only have one win in those games while Bournemouth are unbeaten in three and have won two of those games. Arsenal beat Standard Liege midweek and rested several players but arguably the players that played are better than the starting XI except for Aubameyang. Bournemouth can get more than a point from this game if they stay focused.

Man City vs. Wolverhampton

2nd placed City take on 13th placed Wolves. Wolves finally managed their first win in the league last weekend although that was against Watford. City have dropped points in unlikely places this season and with De Bruyne possibly out Wolves will feel that they can get something out of the game. Wolves were known as the top 6 killers last season but the Europa League has broken their mojo, it will be interesting to see if they can resurrect it.

Newcastle vs. Man United

The final game of the weekend comes to us from Tyneside as United travel to play Newcastle. United drew to Arsenal last weekend in a boring draw while Newcastle were thrashed by Leicester. Newcastle are 19th but a win could take them out of the relegation zone especially against a United side that failed to score against AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League as they could not even register a shot on target. Newcastle have been poor themselves but if there is a team that someone can beat it is United at the moment.

La Liga MW 8

Real Madrid entertain Granada, Atletico travel to Valladolid, and Barcelona play Sevilla in tough clashed during this La Liga weekend. Real Madrid were poor in the Champions League during the week while Atletico and Barcelona registered wins. Granada are actually 2nd and could go top if they win. The pressure is on Zidane.

Serie MW 7

Milan travel to Genoa, Atalanta take on Lecce, Roma entertain Cagliari, Napoli travel to Turin to play Torino, and Juventus travel to Milan to play Inter in a top 2 clash. A fun weekend of football in Italy and Inter vs Juventus should especially be entertaining for Chelsea fans with Conte facing off against Sarri.

Bundesliga MW 7

Leipzig travel to play Leverkusen, Dortmund travel to Freiburg, Bayern take on Hoffenheim, Monchengladbach take on Augsburg, and Frankfurt play Werder Bremen. Interesting games in the Bundesliga as Bayern look to maintain their excellent form.

Ligue MW 9

Marseille take on Amiens, PSG entertain Angers, Nice take on Nantes, Monaco travel to Montpellier, Lille take on Nimes, Rennes take on Stade Reims, and Lyon travel to St.Etienne. Good games in France but PSG should maintain their lead at the top.
