Back with some tasty fixtures!
Premier League MW 9
Everton vs. West Ham
18th placed Everton and Marco Silva entertain 8th placed West Ham who are looking to break into the top 6. Everton have endured a very poor start to the season but a win could take them up to 12th in the table. West Ham have been strong but nervy at times and so it will be interesting to see how and if fortunes have changed for the respective teams. Everton have the quality but it has not clicked yet.
Aston Villa vs. Brighton
15th vs. 14th as both these teams look to climb into the top 10 with wins. Villa got a big win against struggling Norwich before the break while Brighton beat Tottenham comfortably at home. The teams are in good momentum but Brighton struggle away from home and so this should be an interesting game that goes either way.
Bournemouth vs. Norwich
Bournemouth just lost to Arsenal before the break as they sit 10th while Norwich are 19th and lost heavily to Villa. Bournemouth have been decent and were unlucky to walk away from the Emirates without at least a point while Norwich started well but have fallen off the tracks. Pukki is not scoring and a lot of injuries have made any positive momentum impossible for Canaries. If Norwich have some key players back then they could perhaps mount an offensive but for now Bournemouth are looking at a win.
Leicester vs. Burnley
4th placed Leicester take on 7th placed Burnley as both teams are performing very well at the moment. Leicester have been quietly going about their business as the usual big 6 drop points while Burnley have had a solid season and a win could see them enter the top four momentarily. A close game with both teams tough to break down, don’t expect many goals but it could go either way.
Tottenham vs. Watford
If Tottenham were looking for a team to face after having a miserable fortnight then Watford are that team. Spurs sit 9th while Watford are the only team without a win and they sit 20th in the table. Watford will be hoping that work done over the fortnight will help them beat a Tottenham side which are struggling at the moment. It is a London Derby which Tottenham should win on paper but both teams are wounded animals at the moment and the result could go either way.
Wolverhampton vs. Southampton
11th placed Wolves take on 17th placed Southampton as they look to enter the top 10 and continue their upward momentum. Wolves started the season in poor fashion but recent form has seen them climb up the table and they beat City with a great performance before the break. Southampton are struggling at the moment and are winless in their last three. Wolves had a tough time against lower teams last season and if they want to improve then they will have to beat these teams. I expect a Wolves win but Southampton could make it tough.
Crystal Palace vs. Man City
Palace have shocked everyone as they sit 6th in the table while City have shocked many people by being 8 points behind Liverpool and possible dropping down if they drop points. City have struggled with injuries but besides that something is not clicking for Pep’s side as it looks like the period of time has come when his teams start to struggle after success. Hodgson has been brilliant with Palace and Cahill has been an inspired purchase, the success might not be sustainable over the season but fans will think that they could get something out of the game if they stay solid.
Man United vs. Liverpool
Two legendary clubs go head to head with one looking to make it 9 wins out of 9 while one is hoping to manage a point. United and Ole are struggling as they sit 12th and they could drop even further down the table. Everyone looks lost at the club and there is no direction while Liverpool and Klopp are licking their lips looking to win their first Premier League game at Old Trafford under the German manager. United could shock everyone and beat Liverpool or manage a draw but that would paper over the gaping cracks while the reality is that Liverpool will probably thrash their historic rivals.
Sheffield United vs. Arsenal
13th placed Sheffield invite 3rd placed Arsenal as they hope to enter the top 10 over the weekend. Arsenal have been lucky to find themselves where they are as they have managed results but in underwhelming fashion. Sheffield are playing good and innovative football under Wilder and the Gunners are their for the taking but only if Sheffield stay solid and take care of Aubameyang and co.
La Liga MW 9
Barcelona travel to Eibar, Atletico welcome Valencia, Real Madrid travel to Mallorca, and Sevilla take on Levante. Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atletico are the top three but the clubs have their own problems at the moment with chinks in their armour that can be exploited.
Serie A MW 8
Atalanta travel to Rome to play Lazio, Napoli take on Verona, Juventus welcome Bologna, Inter travel to Sassuolo, Roma take on Sampdoria, and Milan take on Lecce. Inter dropped ended their winning run to Juventus with a defeat before the break as Juventus remain the only unbeaten team Europe. Milan sacked their manager and appointed Pioli as they look to climb up the table. An interesting week of Italian football.
Bundesliga MW 8
Frankfurt take on Bayer Leverkusen, Bayern travel to Augsburg, Leipzig play Wolfsburg, Dortmund take on Monchengladbach, and Hoffenheim play Schalke. Monchengladbach are the surprise leaders in the Bundesliga at the moment but it is very close all the way down to 8th placed Dortmund who they play. A fiery weekend of German football awaits.
Ligue 1 MW 10
PSG travel to Nice, Lyon take on Dijon, Lille travel to Toulouse, Monaco take on Rennes, and Marseille take on Strasbourg. PSG are top as usual but below them it is a mess with the usual teams having poor starts and Nantes being two points behind the Parisiens. Ligue 1 seems more entertaining than usual but PSG are still in the lead.
