Champions League MD 3 Review

The usual suspects.

Group A

Club Brugge 0 vs. 5 Paris Saint Germain

Icardi scored the only goal of the first half while he added a 2nd in the 2nd half as Mbappe came off the bench to score a hattrick to seal the win. PSG make it 3/3 as they lead group A and almost guarantee a place in the next round while Brugge stay 3rd but still in contention for the next round.

Galatasaray 0 vs. 1 Real Madrid

Kroos scored the only goal of the game in the 18th minute as Real Madrid laboured to a win against Galatasaray. The win takes the Spaniards to 2nd while Galatasaray remain bottom of the table with a point but still could make the next round mathematically.

Group B

Tottenham 5 vs. 0 Red Star Belgrade

Son and Kane both got doubles and Lamela added one as well as Tottenham released some stress by comfortably beating Red Star at home. Tottenham move into 2nd with the win while Red Star are a point behind them in 3rd. Neither side is assured of anything at the moment.

Olympiacos 2 vs. 3 Bayern Munich

El-Arabi gave Olympiacos a surprising lead in the 23rd minute but it was short lived as Lewandowski equalised in the 34th minute. Lewandowski gave Bayern the lead in the 62nd minute and Tolisso doubled that lead in the 75th minute. dos Santos Torres gave Olympiacos some home in the 79th minute but Bayern held on for all three points. Bayern make it 3/3 as they all but guarantee a place in the next round while Olympiacos are 4th but stand a chance at the next round and Europa League as well.

Group C

Man City 5 vs. 1 Atalanta

Malinovskiy gave Atalanta a lead via the penalty spot in the 28th minute but it only managed to wake City up. Aguero scored a 1st half double to give City the lead and Sterling scored a 2nd half hattrick to seal the deal. Phil Foden was sent off in the 2nd half while Rodri was also injured as City’s defensive crisis grows. City make it 3/3 as they guarantee a place in the next round while Atalanta remain bottom of the table pointless and will struggle to make the Europa League.

Shakhtar Donetsk 2 vs. 2 Dinamo Zagreb

Konoplyanka gave Shakhtar the lead in the 16th minute but Olmo equalised in the 25th minute. Orsic then gave Dinamo the lead in the 60th minute via the penalty spot but Domilson equalised in the 75th minute for Shakhtar. The sides share points as Dinamo sit 2nd on goal difference while Shakhtar are 3rd.

Group D

Atletico Madrid 1 vs. 0 Bayer Leverkusen

Morata came off the bench to score the winning goal in the 78th minute as Atletico sealed three points. Atletico are level on points with leaders Juventus but 2nd due to goal difference. Bayer remain bottom of the group and winless as Europa League remains their only hope now.

Juventus 2 vs. 1 Lokomotiv Moskva

Miranchuk gave Lokomotiv the lead and it looked like they might steal three points but Dybala scored in the 77th and 79th minute to secure a comeback win for the Italians. Juventus are top via goal difference while Lokomotiv are 3rd and look set for a Europa League spot.

Group E

Genk 1 vs. 4 Liverpool

Chamberlain scored within 2 minutes to give Liverpool the lead and it stayed that way for the 1st half. Chamberlain then added a brilliant 2nd in the 57th minute before Mane and Salah scored late on. Genk got a consolation goal in the 88th minute but a defeat was the only result. Genk have a point as they remain bottom as the Europa League looks like their most realistic target while Liverpool are 2nd and not guaranteed of anything at the moment.

Red Bull Salzburg 2 vs. 3 Napoli

Mertens gave Napoli the lead in the 17th minute but youngster Haland equalised for Red Bull via a penalty in the 40th minute. Mertens then restored Napoli’s lead in the 64th minute but Haland equalised again for the Austrians in the 72nd minute. Insigne then guaranteed the three points for Napoli a minute later. Napoli lead the group a point above Liverpool as they most likely will be heading to the next round while Red Bull are 3rd but fighting on all fronts.

Group F

Slavia Praha 1 vs. 2 Barcelona

Messi scored in the 3rd minute and Praha worked hard to equalise in the 50th minute. Their hard work was in vain though as Olayinka scored an own goal in the 57th minute to hand all three points to Barcelona. Barcelona lead the table but are not guaranteed anything yet while Slavia can mathematically make the next round or the Europa League but most likely will not.

Inter Milan 2 vs. 0 Borussia Dortmund

Martinez scored in the 22nd minute and Candreva in the 89th minute as Conte got an important win against Dortmund in Milan. It sees Inter move into 2nd on goal difference while Dortmund are 3rd but level on points as the group remains tight.

Group G

RB Leipzig 2 vs. 1 Zenit

Benfica 2 vs. 1 Olympique Lyon

Rafa Silva gave Benfica the lead in the 4th minute but Depay equalised mid way through the 2nd half in the 70th minute. Pizzi then scored the winner for Benfica in the 85th minute. Benfica remain bottom of the table but only 1 point behind 2nd placed Zenit while Lyon are 3rd but only goal difference as they sit level on points with Zenit.

Group H

Lille 1 vs. 1 Valencia

Cheryshev gave Valencia the lead in the 63rd minute but Diakhaby was sent off in the 84th minute and Ikone equalised in the 95th minute to seal a point for the French. Lille remain bottom of the table with a point as the Europa League becomes the most realistic target while Valencia are 3rd and still with a chance at the next round.
