Weekend Football Preview

Tough games!

Premier League MW 10

Southampton vs. Leicester

Football kicks off on Friday night as 3rd placed Leicester travel to 17th placed Southampton. Southampton ended their losing run with a draw last weekend while Leicester narrowly managed a win against Burnley thanks to VAR. Leicester have been in great form recently but Southampton away is a tough trip. Leicester should win but it could be tough.

Man City vs. Aston Villa

2nd placed City welcome 12th placed Villa for whom a win would see them climb up to 7th potentially. City have face blips this season and their defence took another hit with an injury to Rodri. Villa have been all over the place in terms of performances and so this game should be interesting. City should get the three points but if Villa put in a solid defensive performance they could make it difficult.

Brighton vs. Everton

16th vs. 15th as Brighton welcome Everton who got an important win last weekend that saw them move out of the relegation zone. Everton have plenty of the quality but have taken time to get going this season while Brighton have been poor. Brighton tend to be stronger at home than away and could manage a point or more but the tide should be in Everton’s favour.

Watford vs. Bournemouth

Bottom of the table Watford still search for their first win as they welcome 10th placed Bournemouth. Watford were unlucky to not win against Tottenham but have improved over the last few weeks and a good display could see them nick another point or more. Bournemouth have been solid at the back but going forward they have not scored as many goals as they would like. A game that is hard to predict with both teams standing a chance.

West Ham vs. Sheffield United

2 defeats in a row have seen West Ham drop down to 11th while a win has seen Sheffield move up to 9th as they travel to London. West Ham have been inconsistent while Sheffield have been innovative under Wilder and have gone about their business quietly. A tough game for both teams and one that is too close to call.

Newcastle vs. Wolverhampton

18th placed Newcastle take on 13th placed Wolves as Newcastle look to climb out of the relegation zone. Wolves have started to manage their Europa League schedule with their League games and win during the week in Europe should help them although it was an away trip. Newcastle would have had a week to prepare after their loss to Chelsea but they put in a good defensive performance against the Londoners. Newcastle will most likely play on the counter and Wolves will hope to take advantage of that.

Arsenal vs. Crystal Palace

5th placed Arsenal take on 6th placed Crystal Palace in a London Derby as both teams look to create a gap over the other with 1 point separating the two sides. Palace and Arsenal both suffered losses last weekend and Arsenal just about managed to win against Vitoria on Thursday night thanks to two Pepe free kicks. Palace will look to bounce back from their defeat against City and will know that Arsenal are not what they seem. On any other day Arsenal would win the game but knowing Emery I expect Palace to have more than a chance to win the game.

Liverpool vs. Tottenham

Last seasons’s Champions League finalists go head to head once again although at two very different points on the spectrum. Liverpool are looking to bounce back after dropping points last weekend as they look to maintain their lead at the top. Tottenham are 7th and looking to get a win that would see them climb up to 5th for now. Pochettino has struggled to get his team going and a big win against Red Star would only flatter to deceive any fan. Liverpool also won big during the week but also against relatively weaker opposition. Liverpool are not what they seem as well and are vulnerable throughout their games as luck has been a major factor in maintaining their unbeaten run. A close game between two teams but on form Liverpool should edge it.

Norwich vs. Man United

19th placed Norwich invite 14th placed United as Norwich look to manage their first win since beating City. Pukki has hit a wall at the moment but United are the type of team that everyone likes to play at the moment especially the smaller teams. United got a good point against Liverpool last weekend but it only papered over the gaping cracks while they scored a penalty against Belgrade to win on Thursday as well. Norwich should know that United only score a goal a game and so if they can score more than one and stay solid then they can get three points.

La Liga MW 10

Atletico welcome Bilbao, while Sevilla play Getafe as Real Madrid and Barcelona were supposed to play their Clasico this weekend but tension in Barcelona has postponed that. It is a good opportunity for Atletico to gain some ground on the rest while Granada could be shock leaders by the end of the weekend if they beat Real Betis.

Serie MW 9

Juventus travel to Lecce, Inter take on Parma, Napoli travel to SPAL, Atalanta take on Udinese, and Roma play Milan. Relatively tougher fixtures in Italy this weekend but the usual suspects should win while Milan and Roma should be an entertaining game as Milan look to start from the bottom again.

Bundesliga MW 9

Hoffenheim travel to Berlin to play Hertha, Schalke play Dortmund in the Ruhr Derby, Bayern welcome Union Berlin, Leipzig travel to Freiburg, Bayer take on Werder Bremen, and Monchengladbach take on Frankfurt. Bundesliga is the tightest league at the moment and each weekend is as entertaining as the next.

Ligue MW 11

Nantes take on Monaco, Lille take on Bordeaux, Lyon invite Metz, and PSG play Marseille. PSG have already taken a 5 point lead at the top and it looks like they are going to run away with it again. Marseille need to win make this league interesting.
