Chelsea 2 vs. 0 Crystal Palace Review

Good win to maintain the run!

Chelsea came over bogey team Crystal Palace to win this London Derby by 2 goals. Lampard selected a slightly different team for this game with Kepa starting in goal, Emerson, Tomori, Zouma and Reece James starting defence ahead of Azpilicueta. Kovacic, Kante, and Mount started in midfield and Pulisic, Tammy, and Willian started up front. James was awarded for his good form with the start and Willian was given the captain’s armband as Jorginho was suspended and Azpilicueta rested. Palace had a strong lineup too as Cahill returned to Chelsea for the first time since his move.

Chelsea dominated most of the game with the team flying out of the blocks as we piled on the pressure but Palace stayed strong and defended well as they frustrated the Blues. The 1st half went by with Chelsea having several chances but not many on target as Palace held on going into the 2nd half. Chelsea started in similar fashion for the 2nd half and as Palace began to tire Chelsea began to turn the screw. The 1st goal came in the 52nd minute as Kovacic did well to pass to Willian who timed a beautiful pass into Tammy’s path who expertly slotted in the goal for his 10th in the league. Chelsea continued to dominate as Michy came on to find the 2nd goal. The 2nd goal came in the 79th minute as Pulisic passed the ball into Michy’s path who’s shot was deflected into Pulisic’s path who had continued his run and he headed the ball in for his 5th of the season and first at Stamford Bridge. Billy Gilmour came on later for Mount and Hudson-Odoi also came on for Pulisic who had a slight hip injury.

Player-wise Kepa did not have much to do but kept a clean sheet and made a save on the 1 occasion he had to. Emerson was strong at left back as he continues to return to full fitness. Tomori, and Zouma were solid again and Zouma especially made a great double tackle towards the end of the game. Reece James had a brilliant game as he pocketed Zaha and frustrated him throughout the game. Azpilicueta has competition but hopefully after so many seasons as a regular started he will help Reece into growing even better than him. Kovacic was solid once again as he controlled the midfield as Kante had an assured return to the team. Mount had a good game as he worked hard and made good runs into the box. Many have criticised Mount but he does offer the team hard work and his goals and assists will return. Pulisic gets another goal as he was amazing with his close control and a constant threat to Palace. The American can be a bit selfish at times but that should go away as he continues to grow. Willian had a good game as captain and got an assist as he feels important in this team. Tammy worked well and was rewarded with a goal as he stays the 2nd top scorer in the league behind Vardy who has 11. The subs all had impact as CHO looked lively, Michy got an assist and Gilmour carried on Mount’s hard work.

3 points for Chelsea see them move into 3rd 1 point above City who are now 4th as we play them next in the league. Lampard continues to take 1 game at a time Chelsea’s youngsters continue to gain fans and improve as we have a 2 week break before a big test against City. COME ON YOU BLUES!!!
