Midweek Football Review

Mostly routine.

Premier League MW 15

Crystal Palace 1 vs. 0 Bournemouth

Schlupp scored the only goal of the game as Palace sealed 3 points against Bournemouth. Bournemouth have been in poor form and could not take advantage of Sakho being sent off for Palace in the 19th minute. Crystal Palace climb up to 7th with the win while Bournemouth drop down to 14th.

Burnley 1 vs. 4 Man City

A return to winning ways for City as Jesus scored in the 1st half while he added a 2nd in the 2nd half along with goals from Rodrigo and Mahrez. Brady scored a late consolation goal for Burnley but it City were well and truly the better side. Burnley drop down to 12th while City remain 3rd in the table.

Leicester 2 vs. 0 Watford

A tough 1st half saw an eventful 2nd for Leicester as they managed to beat manager less Watford at home. Vardy scored a penalty in the 55th minute and Maddison got a goal in extra time to seal a deal. Leicester are looking good as they scrape through wins and beat teams convincingly as well as they remain 2nd 8 points behind Liverpool. Watford remain bottom of the table and now 7 points from safety.

Man United 2 vs. 1 Tottenham

Ole sealed his future until the summer by beating Tottenham as he continues to fool the hierarchy and fans by managing points against the big 6 but losing them everywhere else. Mourinho and Tottenham also brought nothing to this game as it was a poor performance. Rashford gave United the lead in the 6th minute and United dominated the 1st half but Alli scored a brilliant goal to equalise in the 39th minute. Rashford then scored a penalty in the 49th minute to restore United’s lead although it was not a penalty and was incredibly soft. United move into 6th with the win while Tottenham drop down to 8th.

Southampton 2 vs. 1 Norwich

Ings and Bertrand scored in the 1st half as it was a battle between the bottom sides. Pukki got one back for Norwich but it was not enough as Hassenhutl seems to be regaining some form with Southampton. Southampton climb into 17th and out of the relegation zone while Norwich remain 19th but I believe they have enough quality to climb out of the relegation zone as well.

Wolverhampton 2 vs. 0 West Ham

Wolves taught Chelsea how to beat West Ham as matters returned to normalcy with Pellegrini as Dendoncker scored in the 1st half and Cutrone late in the 2nd. Wolves continue their climb as they move up to 5th while West Ham drop into 15th with the loss.

Liverpool 5 vs. 2 Everton

A goal fest of a game as Origi scored in the 6th minute and Shaqiri scored in the 17th minute to make it 2-0. Keane got one back for Everton in the 21st minute but Origi got his 2nd in the 31st minute. Mane made it 4-1 in the 45th minute but Richarlison scored right before half time to make it 4-2. Wijnaldum finished matters off late in the 2nd half as Liverpool managed to thrash a team after a long time. Liverpool keep their lead at the top while Everton drop into the relegation zone at 18th while Marcos Silva was sacked yesterday with Duncan Ferguson taking over as caretaker for the Chelsea game.

Sheffield United 0 vs. 2 Newcastle

Newcastle got a big win against an inform Sheffield as Steve Bruce is beginning to find some form in his players. Saint-Maximin got his first goal for the club in the 1st half and Shelvey scored in the 70th minute. Sheffield dropped into 9th while Newcastle climb up to 11th with the win.

Arsenal 1 vs. 2 Brighton

Freddie is not at the wheel at Arsenal as Brighton beat them at the Emirates as the Gunners continue to spiral. Webster scored in the 1st half to give Brighton the lead while Lacazette equalised for Arsenal in the 50th minute. Maupay then scored in the 80th minute to clinch all three points for the Seagulls. Arsenal were 2nd best for most of the game expect at the beginning of the 2nd half as their need for a top class manager becomes evident. The loss means that Arsenal drop down to 10th while Brighton climb up to 13th.

Ligue MW 16

Marseille beat Angers 0-2, Lille beat Lyon 0-1, Monaco beat Toulouse 1-2, and PSG beat Nantes 2-0. PSG maintain their 5 point lead at the top with a game in hand while Marseille, Bordeaux, and Lille complete the top four. Lyon are 10th while Monaco are 13th.
