Weekend Football Preview

Festive fixtures a plenty!

Premier League MW 16

Bournemouth vs. Liverpool

League leaders Liverpool travel to Bournemouth who are 14th in the table having lost their last 4 games. Klopp rotated his team heavily for the midweek game and the likes of Firmino and Salah should be back to top form for this game. Liverpool should make this an easy win while a point or more for Bournemouth would be a welcome shock.

Tottenham vs. Burnley

Tottenham sit in 8th as they take on Burnley who are 12th with both teams having lost their last games. Mourinho suffered a blip against United and will want to return to winning form as soon as possible while Dyche will feel like he can take some points from this game with Tottenham still shaky. An interesting one which Tottenham should scrape through.

Watford vs. Crystal Palace

Bottom placed Watford take on 7th placed Palace in a London Derby as Hodgson looks to carry on his good form. Watford have no manager and are continuing to lose games as this should be a comfortable win for the Eagles. Watford have the quality but no one to make good use the players at hand.

Man City vs. Man United

City who sit 11 points behind Liverpool welcome United who are 6th as both teams look to continue winning ways. City have been patchy of late but still have top quality while United beat Spurs and performed well against a big 6 side. City should win this game but I feel United might manage a point as they do against the bigger teams and regardless of the result Ole has extended his lifeline at Old Trafford.

Aston Villa vs. Leicester

Villa are 16th having lost to Chelsea midweek while Leicester are 2nd and are looking to continue their winning run. Villa played well against Chelsea and have done better against top teams but lost most of those games. Leicester are looking mechanical at the moment as their form takes them from one level to the other. Leicester to win most likely but Villa to make it difficult.

Newcastle vs. Southampton

11th placed Newcastle sit on the cusp of the top 10 as they welcome Southampton who just climbed out of the relegation zone. The two teams are in good form and this should be an interesting game as they look to move further up the table. It could be a draw as not much separates the two sides on current form.

Norwich vs. Sheffield United

19th placed Norwich are looking to return to winning ways against Sheffield who are 9th and are looking to bounce back from a loss as well. Norwich have been better over the last few weeks while Sheffield have just stepped off the gas as they have not won in 4 games. A close game between two promoted sides as it could go either way.

Brighton vs. Wolverhampton

13th placed Brighton beat Arsenal as they welcome 5th placed Wolves. Wolves have gradually returned to their position from last year and are looking like their old selves again while Potter is working well for the Seagulls. Another game between two good managers but Wolves could edge it.

West Ham vs. Arsenal

15th placed West Ham can go level with 10th placed Arsenal if they beat them at home. West Ham and Arsenal both lost their last games and Arsenal have not won in the Premier League since the beginning of October. Pellegrini is the manager under pressure and a win would do him well while Arsenal look lost. Hammers to get the three points especially considering Arsenal’s away form.

La Liga MW 16

Atletico take on Villareal, Real Madrid entertain Espanyol, Valencia travel to Levante, Barcelona welcome Mallorca, and Sevilla travel to Osasuna. La Liga is tight but Barcelon and Real have a game in hand while Sevilla are 3rd and and Real Sociedad are 4th. Atletico are 6th and looking to return to winning ways.

Serie MW 15

Inter play Roma in a top clash at the San Siro, Atalanta welcome Verona, Napoli travel to Udinese with Ancelotti under pressure, Juventus travel to Lazio in another tough fixture, and Milan travel to Bologna. Inter edged into the lead last weekend after Juventus drew their game as Lazio and Cagliari make up the top four. Napoli are 7th while Roma are 6th and Milan are 11th. Serie A has been entertaining this season but the league needs to take a bigger stand against racism as it continues to be a problem.

Bundesliga MW 14

Frankfurt take on Hertha Berlin, Bayern Munich travel to Monchengladbach for a top table clash, Leipzig play Hoffenheim, Dortmund play Dusseldorf, and Schalke travel to Bayer Leverkusen. Tough fixtures in the Bundesliga as Monchengladbach look to maintain their lead at the top while others play catch up.

Ligue 1 MW 17

Lille entertain Brest, Lyon travel to Nimes, PSG take on Montpellier, Angers travel to Rennes, Monaco play Amiens, and Marseille welcome Bordeaux. PSG need to drop points for this league to be interesting as the rest also need to win their games.
