Everton 3 vs. 1 Chelsea Review

Chelsea lost to Everton 3-1 in Liverpool as we once again lost out on gaining ground on rivals. Everton were always going to be hyped given the fact that Duncan Ferguson was caretaker manager and Silva had been sacked. The players were up for it and the fans were up for it and an unchanged Chelsea side were caught in the face with a Toffee wave. Lampard fielded an unchanged lineup but that was his first mistake as rotation is key in this period.

Chelsea were pegged back at the beginning as Richarlison scored in the 5th minute after a cross from Sidibe. Chelsea grew back into the game and ended the 1st half with more possession but little to show for it as we barely threatened Pickford in goal. Calvert-Lewin then started the 2nd half for Everton in similar fashion as he gave them a 2-0 lead in the 49th minute. Kovacic replied back with a brilliant volley to make it 2-1 in the 52nd minute but Chelsea could not capitalise. The substitutions did not work for Lampard as taking players like Reece James off for Michy only left us open on the counter. Calvert-Lewin then made it 3-1 in the 84th minute as Big Duncan Ferguson got his first win in charge of the Toffees.

Chelsea again were not clinical enough in front of goal, Lampard said himself that we take too many touches in and around the box and don’t shoot. Our physicality was poor in defence another thing that Lampard was quick to point out. Kepa had a shaky game once again and while I believe that this is poor form because he also made good saves, Kepa needs to regain his confidence. With other teams dropping points Chelsea should be farther away from 5th by now but that is not the case. Lampard and the team are facing their first proper test and while there is no pressure and we have a buffer we cannot afford to lose more of the upcoming games.

Next up for Chelsea is Lille at Stamford Bridge another big game which has Round of 16 banking on it. Lille have lost most games but they have played well and so its another test. Time to regain that form, COME ON YOU BLUES!!!
