Midweek Football Review
A bummer.
Carabao Cup Quarter-Final
Aston Villa 5 vs. 0 Liverpool
Aston Villa beat Liverpool’s academy teams comfortably as any other result would have been extremely poor from the Birmingham side. Klopp and co are at the Club Wold Cup and so this was left for the kids and while they played well they also got thrashed. Villa reach the semi’s where they will play Leicester.
Everton 2(2) vs. (4)2 Leicester
Maddison and Evans scored in the first half to give Leicester a comfortable lead as it looked like Everton would return to losing ways. Davies though scored in the 70th minute and Baines scored in the 91st minute to take the game to extra time and penalties. Leicester won the game on penalties 2-4 and so will face Villa over two legs.
Oxford 1 vs. 3 Man City
Cancelo scored in the 22nd minute while Taylor equalised for Oxford at the beginning of the 2nd half. City decided to take the lead again and Sterling scored in the 50th minute. Sterling then scored again in the 70th minute and so reach the semis comfortably where they face United.
Man United 3 vs. 0 Colchester
United had a cagey first half but snatched the game in the 2nd with a goal from Rashford to take the lead, Jackson scored an own goal and Martial sealed the deal at the end. United now go into the semis to face City over two legs.
La Liga
The game in hand was the Clasico but it was anything but as it was a boring goalless game with neither team taking any advantage. Barcelona and Real go 5 clear of 3rd but Barcelona lead Real on goal difference.
Bundesliga MW 16
Dortmund and Leipzig played out a feisty 3-3 game, Hertha Berlin beat Leverkusen 0-1, Monchengladbach beat Paderborn 2-0, Schalke drew with Wolfsburg 1-1, and Bayern beat Freiburg 1-3. Leipzig are still top but only on goal difference as Monchengladbach are 2nd. Bayern and Dormtund make up the top four with both on 30 points, 4 behind the top 2.
