Chelsea fresh from their win against Tottenham during the weekend welcome Southampton on Boxing Day who sit 17th in the table but won last weekend. Chelsea had a great performance against Spurs and dominated Mourinho and his team for 90 minutes and the hope is that we will carry that momentum into this game as we look to recover some of the ground lost in recent weeks. Southampton have not been great under Hassenhutl but the club have stuck with their manager and slowly and steadily they have climbed out of the relegation zone.
With fixtures coming at teams with such pace during the festive period there is not much time between recovering, training and playing the next match. Team depth is really put to a test and that is where Chelsea probably have the upper hand. The problem has been our performances at home and for the upcoming 2nd half of the season we really need to turn Stamford Bridge into a fortress once again.
Chelsea Team Preview
Chelsea played a 3-4-3 against Tottenham but I expect Lampard to return to a 4-3-3 for this fixture. Kepa should start in goal but there should be rotation elsewhere. Reece James should start at right back after Azpilicueta looked like he had a slight hamstring issue in the last game. Christensen could be recalled I feel Rudiger and Tomori might start with Zouma given a rest. Emerson should start at left back. Jorginho should be back in the midfield alongside Kovacic while Kante might be given a rest with Mount starting once again. Pulisic and Hudson-Odoi should come in for Willian and Kante while Tammy should continue to start up front. We have taken the bottom teams lightly in recent games but we need to start winning these games.
Southampton Team Preview
Southampton are in fine form in recent weeks with several injured players having returned to the starting lineup. Ings has been scoring several goals and is up to 10 for the season while the likes of Long, Redmond, Bertrand, and Cedric all pose threats in the attacking phase.
Starting XI Prediciton
Chelsea won the reverse fixture 1-4 and a similar result would be a great one for Chelsea. COME ON YOU BLUES!!!
