Weekend Football Preview

Busy weekend of football again!

Premier League MW 22

Sheffield United vs. West Ham

8th placed Sheffield United take on 16th placed West Ham on Friday night as both teams look to move further up the table. Sheffield are winless in their last three having lost their last two while West Ham picked up a big win in Moyes’s first game last weekend. West Ham have picked up form and this wont be the cake walk that Sheffield would have expected a few weeks back. An interesting fixture which could go either way. The reverse fixture was a 1-1 draw.

Crystal Palace vs. Arsenal

London Derby as Palace invite Arsenal to Selhurst Park. Arsenal sit 10th while Palace are 9th and a point separates the two teams as they look to get one over the other. Arsenal finally managed a win last weekend by beating United while Palace have drawn their last two. Palace are a bogey team for Arsenal and it is a real test for Arteta as a point or more would be great for the Eagles but Arsenal cannot afford to lose more ground. The reverse fixture was a 2-2 draw.

Everton vs. Brighton

11th placed Everton take on 14th placed Brighton as Everton look to bounce back from some poor results while Brighton look to make it 3 unbeaten. Brighton tend to struggle away from home and Ancelotti will be looking for a response from his players after some poor shifts. Everton should win but Brighton will make it difficult. The reverse fixture was a 3-2 win for Brighton.

Leicester vs. Southampton

2nd placed Leicester have gained some of their previous form in recent weeks as they invite 12th placed Southampton who have won 3 of their last 4 and drawn the other. Hassenhutl has had a great few weeks as Saints manager and after beating Spurs, and Chelsea, Leicester would be another scalp for his team. A tough game for Rodgers but one they need to win if they want to cut the gap between them and Liverpool. Leicester won the reverse fixture 0-9 and so Southampton really need to redeem themselves.

Man United vs. Norwich

5th placed United lost their last game as they invite bottom of the table Norwich who have drawn their last two. Norwich are 7 points from safety and really need to win several games in this 2nd half of the season to survive relegation while United capped off a poor 2 weeks with an abysmal performance against City in the Carabao Cup. Norwich always score but it is the leads they cannot maintain and if they get an early goal at Old Trafford then it will be up to them. An interesting game that can go either way. United won the reverse fixture 1-3.

Wolverhampton vs. Newcastle

Newcastle sit 13th and have lost their last 3 as they visit Wolves who are 7th and have lost their last two. The teams are looking to get a response from their players and Wolves tend to struggle against weaker teams. Wolves should win this game but Newcastle could cause an upset. The reverse fixture was a 1-1 draw.

Tottenham vs. Liverpool

The game of the weekend as Tottenham and Mourinho welcome Liverpool. Tottenham sit 6th and are winless in 2 having lost 1 and drawn 1 while Liverpool are on their winning run as usual this season. For Mourinho this would be a big coup if he could inflict Liverpool’s first defeat this season and would really gain some positive momentum for Spurs. Liverpool though are on a roll and their confidence levels are on another planet and with Kane out this could be a big win for them. An interesting game that Liverpool should win but Mourinho always performs best with his back against the wall. The reverse fixture was a 2-1 win for Liverpool.

Bournemouth vs. Watford

A relegation battle as Bournemouth who sit 18th and winless in their last four take on Watford who sit 19th and a point behind them as they are unbeaten in their last four. A big game with Watford clearly the team in better form. For Watford this could be a massive step in the direction of survival while Bournemouth will look to use being at home to their advantage. The reverse fixture was a goalless draw.

Aston Villa vs. Man City

City are 3rd and visit 17th placed Villa as they look to continue winning games and make it 3 wins in a row. Villa have been inconsistent this season but one their last game and with Mings back they look more solid in defence. This could be a tough trip for City but one that they should win. Man City won the reverse fixture 3-0.

Supercopa De Espana

Real Madrid vs. Atletico Madrid

Real, Valencia, Barcelona, and Atletico have been in Saudi Arabia for the past week as the Arab country is hosting the Supercopa de Espana for sponsorship reasons. Real beat Valencia 1-3 while Ateltico beat Barcelona 2-3 in a feisty affair. Atletico have picked up confidence in recent weeks while Real have been doing well for months now. Real though are without Hazard, Benzema and a couple of others while Atletico have a fit squad. A Madrid derby in Saudi is unusual but it should be fun for both teams as they look to get a trophy.

Serie MW 19

Milan travel to Cagliari, Napoli travel to Lazio, Inter take on Atalanta, and Roma take on Juventus. A big weekend in Italian football as Inter and Juve face relatively tough opposition. The teams are level on points as Sarri and Conte look to get one over the other. The rest are looking at the Champions League and Europa League places while Milan for now are just hoping to enter the top 10.

Ligue MW 20

Ligue 1 is back as Marseille take on Rennes, Lyon travel to Bordeaux, Lille travel to Dijon, and PSG travel to Monaco. A big game for PSG and Monaco as the Parisiens could see their lead cut down while Monaco could get three points closer to the top four. Monaco sacked Jardim who had been doing quite well and appointed Moreno as an interesting weekend in France awaits.
