Weekend Football Preview

Big weekend of games!

Premier League MW 25

Bournemouth vs. Aston Villa

18th vs. 16th as Villa take travel to Bournemouth. Bournemouth finally managed a big win last weekend while Villa capped off a brilliant comeback to reach the Carabao Cup finals by beating Leicester. New signing Samatta might feature for Villa but while Reina has been in the team since last weekend. A tough game for both teams but 3 points for either will be a big boost in surviving relegation. The reverse fixture was a 1-2 win for Bournemouth.

Crystal Palace vs. Sheffield United

11th vs. 8th as Sheffield travel to Palace looking to take advantage of any possible points dropped by teams above them. Palace have not won in 5 games having drawn 4 and lost last weekend while Sheffield have only won 1 of their last 5. Tosun has given Palace a boost but they still look dodgy while Sheffield have signed Robinson, and Sander Berge who should be available for this game. Both teams are caught in that group from 5th to 14th and so both will want a win, an interesting game awaits. The reverse fixture was a 1-0 win for Sheffield.

Liverpool vs. Southampton

Liverpool take on Southampton who are now 9th as the leaders look to maintain their 19 point gap. Southampton are in good form since the last few months but time and time again teams are going to Liverpool and leaving with 0 points. Southampton will need to stay strong defensively and hope a counter pays off while Liverpool will be patient in their search for three points. Not a big game in the larger context but an interesting one, can Hassenhutl take down his compatriot? The reverse fixture was a 1-2 win for Liverpool.

Newcastle vs. Norwich

14th placed Newcastle take on 20th placed Norwich who need to win to stay within touching distance of survival. Newcastle have bought in Bentaleb, Lazaro, and Rose in reinforcements as they look to break into the top 10 while Norwich have also brought in Duda, Rupp and Sitti. Norwich need to win and Newcastle will want to stay in the mix of the for the teams from 5th to 10th. An interesting game. The reverse fixture was a 3-1 win for Norwich.

Watford vs. Everton

19th vs. 12th as Watford entertain Everton as they look to climb out of the bottom 3. Everton have drawn their last two while Watford are also winless in their last two. Everton are looking to break into the top 10 but face a tough test against the resurgent Watford side. An interesting and probably open game. Everton beat Watford 1-0 in the reverse fixture.

West Ham vs. Brighton

17th vs. 15th in what is big game for both teams as they look to gain distance from the relegation zone. Moyes has only managed one win in his last 5 games while Brighton have also done the same. West Ham have brought Soucek in to solidify the midfield while Brighton are sticking to their guns. The teams need a win and this should be another high level game. The reverse fixture was a 1-1 draw.

Man United vs. Wolverhampton

5th vs. 7th with both teams level on points. United have lost their last two games in the league but did beat City in the Cup during the week albeit in a nothing result. Wolves have 1 win in their last 5 games as they look to beat United and create a gap at the top. United finally got their man in Fernandes yesterday and he should be available for this game. Wolves have brought in Podence who is an interesting winger as they look to push for the Europa League and a potential top four place. A big game with pressure on Ole to deliver now that he has got a player who can provide the results. Interesting to see where Ole plays him though or whether he starts the game. The reverse fixture was a 1-1 draw.

Burnley vs. Arsenal

13th vs. 10th as the teams are level on points and play each other. Arsenal have drawn their last three games as they travel to Burnley who have won their last two. Arsenal have brought in Mari to sure up their defence but I see this game ending in a draw or a win for Arsenal even though Aubameyang is back in contention. Arsenal need the win but Burnley could take the three points. Arsenal won the reverse fixture 2-1.

Tottenham vs. Man City

The final big game of the weekend as Tottenham invite Man City. Tottenham are 6th having finally won last weekend while City are on a roll of wins as all they can do is just that. Tottenham have brought in Bergwijn who is an interesting wing player as Mourinho adds pace to his counter attacking football. This should be a fun game as with Mourinho and Pep going head to head once again. The reverse fixture was a 2-2 draw.

La Liga MW 22

Atletico play Real Madrid in a massive Madrid derby with Real clearly the better team at the moment. Sevilla entertain Alaves, and Barcelona entertain Levante. Should be wins for Sevilla and Barcelona but if Real can beat Atletico then it would be a big step in the direction for the title. Barcelona will be hoping that the leaders slip up.

Serie MW 22

Roma travel to Sassuolo, Juventus entertain Fiorentina, Lazio play SPAL, Milan play Verona, Atalanta play Genoa, Inter travel to Udinese, and Napoli travel to Sampdoria. Juventus have a 3 point lead at the top as they Inter and them face tricky fixtures this weekend. Inter have backed Conte by buying several players from the Premier League with Young, Moses, and Eriksen all being major incomings this month. Lazio are not far off from the top though and could be dark horses while the rest fight for the European places.

Bundesliga MW 20

Dortmund play Union Berlin, Leverkusen travel to Hoffenheim, Frankfurt play Dusseldorf, Bayern travel to Mainz, and Leipzig play Monchengladbach. A big game at Leipzig in the context of the title as the likes of Dortmund and Bayern will be hoping one or both teams drop points. The rest are fighting for the top four.

Ligue MW 22

PSG play Montpellier, Lille travel to Strasbourg, Monaco travel to Nimes, Lyon travel to Nice, and Marseille are away at Bordeaux. PSG 10 points clear at the top as they have probably won the league for another year running. The rest are just seeing who can get close to the leaders and finish in Europe for next season.
