Weekend Football Preview

The 2nd half of the winter break!

Premier League MW 26

Wolverhampton vs. Leicester

9th vs. 3rd as Leicester visit Wolves on Friday night. Leicester have had some poor form of late having only won 2 of their last 5 games and drew to Chelsea two weeks ago, while Wolves have only 1 win in their last 5 games which has seen them drop down the table. A close encounter as always with both teams seeking the three points with Wolves looking to climb back up again while Leicester will be hoping to not drop into the top four race. An interesting game that can go either way. The reverse fixture was a 0-0 draw.

Southampton vs. Burnley

13th vs. 11th in a mid table battle as Southampton take on Burnley looking to re enter the top 10. Burnley are unbeaten in their last 3 fixtures while Southampton also have 3 wins out of 5 but lost two weeks ago. Either team can go 10th with the win while both are in decent form I fancy Southampton to get the win. Burnley though are a physical side and won’t make it easy. The reverse fixture was a 3-0 win for Burnley.

Norwich vs. Liverpool

Two german managers at the opposite ends of the spectrum go head to head as Klopp takes on Farke. Norwich are 7 points from safety at the moment as they sit bottom and while a win would be massive it probably won’t come against Liverpool. Liverpool are rested and ready to go for the run in and after having such a great season till now they wont falter against Norwich who to their credit have beaten City and drawn with Spurs at home. Only one winner though as Liverpool should take 3 points. The reverse fixture was a 4-1 win for Liverpool.

Aston Villa vs. Tottenham

Big game for Villa who sit 17th and a point outside the relegation zone as they take on Spurs who are 6th and 4 points off of top four. Villa have had a mixed run of late while Spurs have piled up to wins and a draw while one of the results was against City. Tottenham have a great opportunity to gain some ground with Chelsea taking on United but Villa are no pushovers especially at home and so this fixture could go in either direction. The reverse fixture was a 3-1 win for Spurs.

Arsenal vs. Newcastle

10th vs. 12th as Arsenal invite Newcastle with the teams looking to finish in the top 10. Arsenal on an unbeaten run having drawn their last four games and won one under Arteta while Newcastle  are also unbeaten in their last four games having won 1 and drawn 3. Two teams in similar form and it will be interesting to see who takes advantage of the other. The reverse fixture was a 0-1 win for Arsenal.

La Liga MW 24

Atletico travel to Valencia, Barcelona take on Getafe, Sevilla take on Espanyol, and Real Madrid welcome Celta Vigo. Some interesting games in Spain this weekend as Real look to build the gap between them and Barca. Real should get a win but the others might struggle for the 3 points with most of the teams in shaky form. A loss for Atletico though should make this a two horse race if it wasn’t already.

Serie MW 24

Atalanta take on Roma, Juventus welcome Brescia, Napoli travel to Cagliari, Lazio take on Inter, and Milan take on Torino. A great weekend for Juventus to go clear of Lazio and Inter if they get three points while Atalanta and Roma should be an interesting game as well. Lazio will look to go above Inter by beating them while Conte will want to go 4 clear of Lazio to gain some distance from 3rd. A very interesting weekend in terms of the title race in Italy.

Bundesliga MW 22

Dortmund welcome Frankfurt, Leipzig play Werder Bremen, Monchengladbach travel to Dusseldorf, Bayern travel to Koln, and Schalke take on Mainz. Tough fixtures for all teams involved in the title race in Germany as Bayern sit a point clear at the top. The table is ever changing in this league and this weekend should also see several of the teams switch around.

Ligue MW 25

Monaco take on Montpellier, PSG travel to Amiens, Lyon welcome Strasbourg, and Lille take on Marseille. Similar to the Premier League the title is mostly done and dusted in France with PSG well clear but Marseille also sit comfortably in 2nd with an 8 point gap and so there is little to fight for at the moment. Monaco are looking to finish in the European places at best.
