Big one once again!
Chelsea take on Tottenham for what is the first game of the weekend as Spurs sit a point behind Chelsea in 5th with this being a big game for both teams. Spurs have been on a good run of form as they have won their last 3 games and drawing the 4th. For Mourinho that is 10 points in the last 4 games while Chelsea have 2 points in the last 4 games which has essentially allowed Spurs to come so close to Lampard and his men. Mourinho has got Tottenham playing in typical Mourinho style by defending diligently and playing on the counter.
Chelsea have struggled as of late to score goals and we continue to concede them as well. The two against United on Monday were not from counter’s but from set pieces which has been one of our faults this season. The lineup itself was disappointing against United but that was necessarily fully down to Lampard but largely due to the fact we have so many players out injured. The reverse fixture got three points for Chelsea as we switched to a 3-4-3 and scored two thanks to Willian although that was his once in a season performance and so relying on him to deliver once again would be stupidity.
Chelsea Team Preview
Lampard will be without Pulisic who is out without a date of return while Kante is out for three weeks minimum. Hudson-Odoi might be available, he was pictured in training and was not mentioned by Lampard so he could feature. Tammy is 70 percent fit and could and should only feature from the bench. Christensen is available for the game after getting a face mask fitted in Italy for his nose. The silver lining is that Loftus-Cheek will be in the squad and while he could make it on the bench he should only make a late cameo, but baby steps are always good. I expect Chelsea to stick with a 3-4-3 for this game especially since Spurs could barely break Leipzig down in their Champions League game and with a 3-5-2 formation. Caballero might stay in goal but Kepa should be back in my opinion while Christensen, Zouma, and Tomori should make the back three. Reece should start at right wing back while Azpilicueta should start at left wing back, although Alonso should probably start in this formation. Jorginho and Kovacic should make up the middle two while Hudson-Odoi, Willian, and Giroud should be the front three. If we do start with a 4-3-3 then I would drop Tomori out and put Mount in.
Tottenham Team Preview
Tottenham are without Kane and now also Son as they have no out and out striker available to them. Mourinho will most likely stick to a 4-2-3-1 formation as he looks to sit back and counter with Moura most likely playing up top. Bergwijn should pose a threat while Alli, and Lamela are always dangerous. Lo Celso has begun to put in good performances from midfield while Aurier is decent going forward as well. One can expect a typical park the bus game from Mourinho while nicking a goal on the counter.
Starting XI Prediction
It is not an understatement to say that Chelsea need to win this game, our top four survival depends on it. Chelsea can expect to have much of the ball and we have to be ruthless in front of goal, with Giroud I think we have that as he should get plenty of service from the likes of Reece James. Mourinho back at Chelsea for the first time since joining Tottenham, he should expect a tough crowd which should only benefit Chelsea. Big game, early kick-off let’s start the weekend with three points. COME ON YOU BLUES!!!
