Midweek Football Review

That’s that for the Bundesliga title.

Bayern Munich 1 vs. 0 Dortmund

Kimmich scored a delightful but saveable chip in the 43rd minute to give Bayern the lead and eventual three points as Dortmund were not up to the races. Bayern put in a solid performance with players like Kimmich and Davies standing out. Bayern extend there lead to 7 points at the top of the table while Dortmund remain 2nd in the table. The Bundesliga title is all but over in my opinion as Bayern would have to lose 2 games at least to give the other teams some hope. 8th title in a row incoming.

Werder Bremen 0 vs. 0 Monchengladbach

Monchengladbach endured another torrid game week as they failed to break down Werder Bremen. The away team could not take advantage of teams around them dropping points but still manage to move one place up and back into the Champions League spots on goal difference as they sit 4th. Werder Bremen remain 17th and 6 points from safety.

Frankfurt 3 vs. 3 Freiburg

A very entertaining game ended with both teams sharing the points as Frankfurt came from behind to earn a point. Grifo gave Freburg the lead in the 28th minute but Andre Silva soon equalised for the home team in the 35th minute. Petersen then restored Freiburg’s lead in the 67th minute and Holer made it 1-3 in the 69th minute. Frankfurt had other plans in mind though as Kamada scored in the 79th minute and Chandler equalised in the 82nd minute. Frankfurt remain 14th in the table while Freiburg drop one place down into 8th.

Leverkusen 1 vs. 4 Wolfsburg

Wolfsburg got a big win against Leverkusen as the home team failed to take advantage and move further up the table. Pongracic scored in the 43rd minute before Arnold scored in the 65th minute and Steffen scored in the 67th minute. Pongracic added a 4th in the 75th minute while Baumgartlinger got a consolation goal in the 85th minute. Leverkusen dropped out of the Champions League places back into 5th on goal difference while Wolfsburg remain 6th 11 points behind Leverkusen.

RB Leipzig 2 vs. 2 Hertha Berlin

Team no 4 that could not take advantage of Dortmund dropping points was Leipzig as they barely managed a draw against Hertha Berlin. Grujic gave Hertha the lead in the 9th minute only for Klostermann to equalise for Leipzig in the 24th minute. Halstenberg was then sent off for Leipzig in the 63rd minute but Schick got the lead for Leipzig in the 68th minute after some terribly poor goalkeeping. Hertha though were awarded a penalty in the 82nd minute and Piatek stepped up to convert it and equalise. Leipzig then held on for a point. Leipzig remain 3rd in the table 2 points behind Dortmund while Hertha move one place up into 10th.

Augsburg 0 vs. 0 Paderborn

Paderborn managed a point against Augsburg while the home team failed to beat the relegation candidates. Augsburg remain 12th while Paderborn remain bottom of the table 9 points from safety.

Union Berlin 1 vs. 1 Mainz

Points were shared in this game as well Baku gave Mainz the lead int he 13th minute but Ingvartsen equalised for Berlin in the 33rd minute. Andrich was sent off for Berlin in the 41st minute but Mainz failed to take advantage. Union remain 13th while Mainz remain 15th in the table 1 point above the relegation zone.

Hoffenheim 3 vs. 1 Koln

Hoffenheim got 3 points against Koln as they put in a good shift in what was a top 10 clash. Baumgartner scored in the 11th minute to give Hoffenheim the lead while Bornauw was sent off for Koln in the 26th minute. Baumgartner doubled the lead in the 46th minute. Zuber then made it 3-0 in the 48th minute while Hubner was sent off for Berlin in the 50th minute. Kainz got a consolation goal for Koln but the damage had already been done. Hoffenheim move up to 7th only 3 points from 6th and a Europa League spot while Koln drop down into 11th.

Dusseldorf 2 vs. 1 Schalke

Schalke continue their torrid run of form as they lost to Dusseldorf in what was a massive 3 points for the relegation side. McKennie had given Schalke the lead in the 53rd minute but Hennings equalised in the 63rd minute and Karaman got the lead in the 68th minute. Dusseldorf are now only a point from safety while Schalke drop down to 9th in the table.
