Slowly and steadily all leagues are returning as La Liga is the latest to restart while Coppa Italia returns to Italy!
Bundesliga MW 31
Hoffenheim vs. RB Leipzig
7th placed Hoffenheim take on 3rd placed RB Leipzig as the home team looks to break into a Europa League position while the away team look to decrease the gap to 2nd. It should be an interesting and well contested game with either team coming out on top. Leipzig won the reverse fixture 3-1.
Dusseldorf vs. Dortmund
16th placed Dusseldorf are looking to escape the relegation zone while 2nd placed Dortmund are aiming to finish 2nd in what should be a straight forward win for the away team. Dusseldorf could make it difficult for Dortmund but they should have enough to get the 3 points. Dortmund won the reverse fixture 5-0.
Koln vs. Union Berlin
12th placed Koln take on 14th placed Union Berlin in a fixture that does not have much at stake. The two teams are expected to finish in the middle of the table and should avoid relegation. Union Berlin won the reverse fixture 2-0.
Wolfsburg vs. Freiburg
A good game comes to us from 6th placed Wolfsburg as they welcome 8th placed Freiburg. Wolfsburg are in the driving seat for a Europa League spot but they cannot afford to drop points with teams right behind them. Freiburg are one of those teams as they sit 4 points behind Wolfsburg. This should be an interesting game and a must win for Freiburg. Freiburg won the reverse fixture 1-0.
Hertha Berlin vs. Frankfurt
9th placed Hertha take on 11th placed Frankfurt in tough game for both teams. Frankfurt have had a poor season but gained some form since football resumed while neither team is fighting for anything this season. The reverse fixture was a 2-2 draw.
Paderborn vs. Werder Bremen
The relegation derby as bottom of the table Paderborn take on 17th placed Werder Bremen. The two teams are separated by 5 points and one has to assume that if Paderborn lose then that is relegation sorted. A loss for Werder would also heavily diminish their chances at survival and so a win is a must for the away team. It should be a tough game. Paderborn won the reverse fixture 0-1.
Bayern Munich vs. Monchengladbach
League leaders Bayern don’t have many hurdles to jump over now but if there is one left it is Monchengladbach. The away team has dropped of the pace in recent weeks but it should still be a tasty fixture as they sit 4th in the table and look to consolidate a Champions League finish. Monchengladbach won the reverse fixture 2-1 but I expect Bayern to win and all but mathematically declare the title theirs.
Mainz vs. Augsburg
15th placed Mainz take on 13th placed Augsburg in what is a clash between two teams that can fall into the relegation zone. Mainz are 3 points above it and Augsburg are 4 points above it and so neither team will want to drop points. Augsburg won the reverse fixture 2-1.
Schalke vs. Leverkusen
5th placed Leverkusen will look to beat 10th placed Schalke as they aim to break into the top four and seal a Champions League spot. Schalke have been no where near their best and so should pose no problem. Leverkusen won the reverse fixture 2-1.
La Liga MW 28
Sevilla vs. Real Betis
3rd placed Sevilla find themselves 9 points behind Real Madrid but leading a tight race for 3rd while Real Betis are 12th and have had a lacklustre season this time around. With plenty of games though any definitive position is too close to call and so there is a lot to play for. Sevilla won the reverse fixture 1-2.
Granada vs. Getafe
5th placed Getafe travel to 9th placed Granada with Getafe being a revelation this season and sitting outside the Champions League spots on goal difference. Granada have also done well but find themselves 7 points from a Europa League position although a win could change a lot. Another interesting game to keep an eye on. Getafe won the reverse fixture 3-1.
Valencia vs. Levante
7th placed Valencia take on 13th placed Levante with Valencia just 4 points from 4th and a Champions League spot. Levante are firmly in the mid table and have no tension of being relegated but could edge into the top 10 as they are only 4 points form 10th. Valencia won the reverse fixture 2-4.
Espanyol vs. Alaves
20th placed Espanyol take on 14th placed Alaves in a big game for the home team. Espanyol are 6 points from safety and relegation would be a big shock to the historic club. Alaves are pretty much where they should be and will want to keep their distance from the relegation zone. The reverse fixture was a 0-0 draw.
Celta Vigo vs. Villarreal
17th placed Celta welcome 8th placed Villarreal with two teams in very different positions. Celta sit 1 point above the relegation zone while Villarreal are 4 points from European football. The two teams have much to fight for and it should be an interesting game although Villarreal should take 3 points. Celta won the reverse fixture 1-3.
Leganes vs. Valladolid
19th placed Leganes take on 15th placed Valladolid in what is very much a relegation game. Leganes are 3 points from safety while Valladolid are 4 points above the relegation zone. This should be a close game with neither team clear favourites. The reverse fixture was a 2-2 draw.
Mallorca vs. Barcelona
18th placed Mallorca take on 1st placed Barcelona in a big game for both teams. Mallorca are a point from safety while Barcelona are only 2 points above Real Madrid. Madrid will hope that Kubo and Mallorca can take points off of Barca who had been in dominant form prior to the lockdown. Barcelona beat Mallorca 5-2 in the reverse fixture.
Bilbao vs. Atletico Madrid
10th placed Bilbao welcome 6th placed Atletico as the two teams return from the lockdown. Atletico are only a point away from the top four while Bilbao are 8 points away from the top 6. The home team are still in the race for Europe and will want to beat Atletico who had been struggling prior to the lockdown at least domestically. Atletico beat Bilbao 2-0 in the reverse fixture.
Real Madrid vs. Eibar
2nd placed Real take on 16th placed Eibar in as the home team returns to football with a rejuvenated squad. Hazard is back, Asensio is back, Mendy etc the list goes on as they look to win La Liga this season. Eibar should pose no real threat with the away team only two points above the relegation zone. Real Madrid won the reverse fixture 0-4.
Real Sociedad vs. Osasuna
4th placed Real Sociedad take on 11th placed Osasuna with the home side looking to maintain their Champions League position. Osasuna have mixed results this season but Sociedad should have enough to see out the three points. Real Sociedad won the reverse fixture 3-4.
Coppa Italia Semi-Final 2nd Leg
Juventus (1) vs. (1) AC Milan
Juventus and AC Milan play out their 2nd leg of the Coppa Italia semi-final almost two months after they last played. Juventus have the away goal but the 1st leg was a tightly contested game between the two teams. With this being the first game back for both teams the game will probably not be at its best but the players of quality are all there and so goals should come. Ibrahimovic might not play for Milan while Juventus have most of their players available including Ronaldo. I have a feeling Juventus will go through although it would be nice if Milan did.
Napoli vs. Inter Milan
The other semi-final is also between two tough teams as Inter travel to Napoli. Milan suffered a lot during the last few months but now the city along with Italy should find some respite in football. Napoli are ahead with the away goal but Inter probably have the better squad and Conte will want to reach the final where he could play his former team in Juventus. A fun game and one I feel Inter will edge out.
