Midweek Football Preview

The football keeps rolling on!

Premier League MW 32

Brighton vs. Man United

15th placed Brighton are 6 clear of the relegation zone as they take on 6th placed United as they sit 3 points behind Wolves with Wolves having played during the weekend. United have done well in recent games post lockdown but struggled to beat Norwich in the FA Cup albeit with their backup players. Brighton have done well having beaten Arsenal and drawn against Leicester and so will feel they can get something out of this game.

Bournemouth vs. Newcastle United

18th placed Bournemouth take on 14th placed Newcastle in a big game for the home team. Bournemouth are in the relegation zone on goal difference but can go above Watford with a win. Newcastle have done well post lockdown and put up a fight against Manchester City during the weekend. In current form Newcastle should win but it could be an interesting game.

Everton vs. Leicester City

12th placed Everton take on a struggling Leicester City who sit 3rd in the table just a point above 4th. Everton have been playing well in recent games and have really improved defensively as they take on a Leicester side who are goal shy at the moment. Leicester’s poor form has seen them well and truly drop into a top four race and this game looks like another stumbling block for Brendan Rodgers.

Arsenal vs. Norwich

9th placed Arsenal take on bottom of the table Norwich in a game that Arteta and company should be winning. Norwich played well against United during the weekend but their league form has been extremely poor even post lockdown. The Canaries really need to start winning if they want to stand any chance of survival. Arsenal have been poor as well but finally managed to win as they beat Southampton and then won on the weekend having beaten Sheffield United. An interesting game that could go either way.

Sheffield United vs. Tottenham

8th vs. 7th as struggling Sheffield United take on Mourinho’s Spurs. Sheffield United have not been at their best post lockdown and it has seen them drop down to 8th in the table. Tottenham themselves have been a mixed batch in recent weeks but they have been better with the likes of Kane and Son back and so this could be a tough game for Sheffield.

Man City vs. Liverpool

The newly crowned Champions in Liverpool take on their rivals and ex champions City in their first game back as league winners. This will be a massive game with City giving Liverpool a guard of honor but both teams will want to win. City are coming off a loss to Chelsea while Liverpool have been ruthless in recent weeks. A highly entertaining game is expected with City looking to set the record straight while Liverpool will want to start their new reign with a big win.

La Liga MW 33

Mallorca vs. Celta Vigo

18th vs. 17th in a big relegation clash. Mallorca are 8 points behind Celta Vigo and at the moment that is a big gap. It is already a big task for any of the relegation zoned teams to reach safety but a loss for Mallorca in this game would be the nail on the coffin. Celta are playing well and managed to draw against Barcelona during the weekend so Celta should win this game.

Leganes vs. Sevilla

19th placed Leganes take on 4th placed Sevilla with Leganes having no real hope of survival this season. Sevilla sit 3 points above 5th and need to return to winning ways to maintain their push for the Champions League. Sevilla should win.

Barcelona vs. Atletico Madrid

2nd vs. 3rd as Barcelona take on Atletico Madrid with both teams in different form. The gap between the two teams is 11 points and while Barcelona will probably finish 2nd in the table the home team have been poor in recent weeks having fallen from 1st. Atletico have won all their games since returning to football and they look good. If Atletico beat Barcelona and Real win the leaders could go 5 points clear so it is a massive game.

Alaves vs. Granada

16th placed Alaves take on 10th placed Granada in a big of a nothing game. Granada are 4 points from 7th though and are maybe aiming for that Europa League spot while Alaves are 9 points clear of the relegation zone and so it they should be happy to stay in La Liga.

Valencia vs. Bilbao

8th vs. 9th with both teams pushing for a Europa League place. A win for either team could see them move into 7th and so this should be an entertaining game for both sets of fans. Neither team is a clear favourite with both having mixed form.

Valladolid vs. Levante

14th placed Valladolid take on 12th placed Levante in a strictly mid table game with neither team under any real pressure.

Real Betis vs. Villarreal

13th placed Betis take on 5th placed Villarreal with the away team in good form as they aim for a top four finish. Betis have struggled and a win for Villarreal could see them enter the top four on goal difference if Sevilla lose.

Real Sociedad vs. Espanyol

7th vs. 20th as Real Sociedad continue to slip down the table while Espanyol are all but mathematically relegated. Sociedad have struggled and although they should win this game but it won’t be easy.

Eibar vs. Osasuna

15th vs. 11th placed Osasuna in a mid table game with neither team really aiming for any positions.

Real Madrid vs. Getafe

League leaders take on Real Madrid as they take on 6th place Getafe who have struggled since they have returned to football. Real have won all their games and are looking strong as they look to win the title one again. An interesting game.

Serie MW 29

Torino vs. Lazio

13th placed Torino take on 2nd placed Lazio with Lazio looking at catching up to Juventus and maintaining distance from Inter. Torino are just 6 points above the relegation zone and with several games to go they also need to win games. Lazio should win but this should be a tough game.

Genoa vs. Juventus

League leaders Juventus travel to 17th placed Genoa who sit a point above the relegation zone. Juventus are pushing on with the likes of Dybala and Ronaldo and should have too much for Genoa.

Bologna vs. Cagliari

11th vs. 10th in a mid table clash between the two teams. A point separates the two teams and they are only about 4 points away from 7th so there is plenty to fight for between the evenly matched teams.

Inter Milan vs. Brescia

3rd placed Inter take on 19th placed Brescia with Inter just about managing 3 points in every game. Brescia are not in good form and have struggled this season. Inter should get three points.

Lecce vs. Sampdoria

18th placed Lecce are a point from safety as they take on 16th placed Sampdoria who are just a point above them. It is a big relegation clash and either team could win.

Fiorentina vs. Sassuolo

14th placed Fiorentina take on 12th placed Sassuolo in a mid table battle. The two teams have been decent in recent games so the result could go either way.

SPAL vs. AC Milan

7th placed Milan are aiming for Europa League football at the minimum as they take on bottom of the table SPAL. Milan are gaining form and should have enough to beat SPAL, a comfortable win is expected.

Verona vs. Parma

8th vs. 9th in a top of the table clash with both teams level on points and aiming for Europe. A close clash for sure.

Atalanta vs. Napoli

4th placed Atalanta take on 6th placed Napoli with the home team continuing where they stopped off before the lockdown. Atalanta score goals for fun and this could be a fun game to watch with Napoli needing the wins.

AS Roma vs. Udinese

5th placed AS Roma take on 15th placed Udinese who are close to the relegation zone being 3 points above it. Roma have struggled post lockdown and so that should make this a close game.
