Big big game!
Chelsea take on Sheffield United on Saturday night in what is another massive game with both teams chasing European places. Chelsea now sit 3rd in the table 1 points above Leicester and 2 ahead of Manchester United. Sheffield United sit 7th and a point behind Wolves as they chase a Europa League spot. Before football restarted Sheffield United were primed for a top four race but post lockdown form has seen them drop 8 points from 5th and any potential Champions League place. Recent games have shown they are slowly gaining form though and a win against Spurs was a good reminder of their defensive solidity.
Chelsea go into this game having won at Palace but a 2 point cushion is nothing and so this is a must win game as is every remaining game. Lampard wasn’t really asked any game related questions although he was asked about the interest in Kai Havertz to which he replied he had nothing to say about transfers. The reverse fixture was a 2-2 draw after Tammy had given us a 2-0 lead in the 1st half only for us to blow that lead in the 2nd and drop points in the last minute. Those frailties haven’t really escaped us as this game nears but we have been scoring more goals which is an improvement over our lack of finishing in the 1st half of the season. Wilder will use his usual methods to get the win while Sheffield will very solid at the back but Chelsea will have to exploit those gaps and the likes of Pulisic and Willian are doing that very well at the moment. More than anything Chelsea will have to be clinical and solid at the back as well.
Chelsea Team Preview
News came out yesterday that Billy Gilmour had got a knee injury and that was confirmed by Lampard today as it was revealed that Gilmour would be out for 3-4 months. It is a big shock to the team as Billy was playing so well but he will be back and fitter than ever hopefully in time for next season. Kante is still out for the game as well while Tomori is still a week or two away. Kovacic is back though and expect him to start in place of Gilmour in the CDM role. Lewis Bate has also been called up to the squad who is another promising youngster in a similar position. Jorginho did have a good cameo against Palace but I still think Kovacic will start. Kepa will remain in goal with James, Christensen, Zouma, and Azpilicueta making up the back four. Kovacic should start in the CDM role and in front of him Mount should be there but instead of Barkley I want Ruben to start. Pulisic, and Willian should continue on wings with Giroud up front.
Sheffield United Team Preview
Fleck and McGoldrick could be back for Sheffield United but they would probably start from the bench. Sheffield United use their unique flying centre backs style to hurt opposition teams and so people like Egan can pose a serious threat. Berge has been an eye catching addition to the midfield during the January transfer window and he is very highly rated. Sharp is experienced up front while Moussett can also knock in a few goals with McBurnie being the tall striker.
Starting XI Prediction
This is a massive game and Chelsea need to continue the winning streak and get three points at Sheffield United. COME ON YOU BLUES!!!
