Chelsea 1 vs. 0 Norwich Review MW 36

3 points.

Thats the biggest and most important take away from this game, that we got 3 points and are now 4 points clear of Leicester and Manchester United as we see out the rest of the game week. Lampard made some changes to the lineup as he chose to go with experience. Kepa remained in goal with Azpilicueta and Alonso as the full backs and Rudiger and Zouma as the centre backs. Jorginho continued in the CDM role but Kovacic came in for Mount and Loftus-Cheek came in for Barkley. Pulisic and Willian continued on the wings while Giroud replaced Tammy up front.

The initial demand was that we at least put 4 past Norwich as literally everyone has destroyed Norwich but this game did not go according to plan. Chelsea dominated the ball over two halves we ended the game with 69 percent possession but there were moments where he reached the low 80’s. We had 21 shots on goal with 6 on target while Norwich had 2 with 0 on target. That just shows how deep Norwich were during the game. Uncharacteristically they chose the game after getting relegated to set up defensively for the majority of the game. Chelsea though did get a goal in right before half time as Pulisic found Giroud with a brilliant cross and he headed the only goal of the game. Other than that it was a lethargic performance and that’s why the 3 points are all that matter at this stage. Ziyech and Werner will add that clinical edge and creativity next season while the likes of Havertz should also come in and help out. Defensively we got a clean sheet but Norwich really provided no test for our backline and so no one should draw any big conclusions from the scoreline.

Player Review

Kepa – Nothing to do for Kepa but he gets a rare clean sheet.

Azpilicueta – A solid game and put some brilliant crosses into the box.

Rudiger – Solid but really nothing to do made a good tackle in the 2nd half to stop a Norwich attack.

Zouma – Becoming a constant at the back for now and another assured performance.

Alonso – Same as Azpi solid and some really good crosses that no one got on the end of.

Jorginho – Another poor game, Jorginho didn’t really have to play this game but he didn’t make any impact and it looks like his time at the club is coming to an end.

Kovacic – A good performance and ran the midfield as he continues to be our most consistent player this season.

Loftus-Cheek – Not back at his best but getting there and most importantly went through the game unscathed.

Pulisic – Got an assist and again it looked like anything brilliant would come from Pulisic. With Ziyech in the stands and more players on the way the burden to carry Chelsea should be lifted sooner rather than later.

Willian – Decent but would have started Hudson-Odoi for this game, Willian looked like his normal self. Defensively he did well recovering the ball a couple of times.

Giroud – Got the goal and probably should have had more but he continues to be our most reliable outlet at the top.

Barkley – Good when he came on and brought some life into the team.

James – Replaced Alonso and delivered some beautiful crosses that no one attacked as he continues to be robbed of assists.

Hudson-Odoi – Came on for Pulisic and looked lively making some good runs, it is high time he starts a game.

Abraham – Came on for Giroud late on but no time to make any real impact.

3 points were the key and we got them and now Chelsea can sit back and think about Sunday’s FA Cup semi-final. The performance itself not the best and Ziyech probably fell asleep watching it at Stamford Bridge but it will get better. Onto the next game, COME ON YOU BLUES!!!.
