Who will take the crown from Chelsea?!
The Europa League final takes place on Friday night as the 19/20 season nears its finish. Europa League kings Sevilla take on Conte’s Inter Milan as the Italians look to win their first European title since 2010. The two managers are also amongst the number who want to prove people wrong as Lopetegui looks to set his record straight after a dreadful time in charge of Spain and Real Madrid. Conte moved to Inter last summer and finished within 2 points of Juventus in Serie A but there are still doubts about his future, although a Europa League win would brush those doubts to the side.
Sevilla narrowly progressed past CFR Cluj in the Round of 32, and then beat Roma in a one off game post lockdown in the Round of 16. Sevilla then beat Wolves 0-1 in the Quarter-Finals and beat Manchester United 2-1 in the Semi-Finals. The Spanish side have done well post lockdown finishing 4th in La Liga and so there is no pressure of winning to qualify for the Champions League. Players to watch in this Sevilla team are Reguilon the fast paced left-back on loan from Real Madrid, along with players like Banega, Ocampos (if passed fit), Suso and Munir among others.
Inter beat Ludogorets in the Round of 32, followed by a one off win against Getafe post lockdown in the Round of 16. Inter then beat Leverkusen in the Quarter-Finals followed by a thumping 5-0 win against Shakhtar in the Semi-Finals. Compared to Sevilla Inter have had a slightly easier journey on paper but they probably have the better team going into this game. Inter similar to Sevilla don’t have to worry about Champions League qualification and so for them the stakes are the same. Inter of course have Lukaku, and Martinez up front but the likes of Barella, D’Ambrosio, Eriksen, Sanchez etc all pose a threat while Conte’s teams are notoriously tough at the back.
This is going to be one exciting game to watch and it can actually go either way there are no favourites. Sevilla have been there and done it on many occasions while Inter are looking to start another trophy laden run. Will Conte win his first European trophy or will Lopetegui redeem himself amongst Europe’s managers?
